If you are looking for a wonderful place to enjoy some AMAZING Tex/Mex food, then you need to come by Los Caporales.
My kids and I were going to the movie theater nearby and my daughter said we had not had "Mexican" food in a while and so we decided to stop in. This unassuming family owned little gem is located in the Willowbrook area. Once entering, you get an immediate feeling of warmth and welcome. The wait staff was inviting and courteous, efficient but with a familial feel to their service.
We were immediately seated and asked about drinks. Shortly after this our drinks and customary chips/salsa came out. MAN, I am a fan of warm salsa and you can taste the freshness of this salsa. My son (who was not a fan of Tex/mex food), who has never liked salsa actually tried it because my daughter commented on how good it was. With mild heat and great flavor, even he said he liked it🤯.
I always base a Tex/Mex restaurant on 3 things chips/salsa, Queso and Beef fajitas. So naturally, we ordered the Queso and opted for the White Queso, as my daughter said she had never had it before. It was very good (this is the only area that could have been a little better). The flavor was on point, but the consistency was a little runny for what I would have expected. The owner (Gilbert), who came and introduced himself and who appears to have a warm and welcoming personality, even stated that it was not normally so and offered to change it out (even though we said nothing about it). The kids however did not care as they devoured the dish, leaving me with little to call my own, lol.
Then the food....Now, I do not usually plug other restaurants in my reviews (So I won'tin this one either), but I am a huge fan of great beef fajitas and this is probably number 4 on my list on places now. These fajitas (Beef Fajita Poblano is what I believe it was called) were tender, cooked ro perfect with a very pleasant flavors. I like a little more char on my fajitas but there was enough. The Borracho beans....ohhhhhhh, lemme SAY...YUM!!! On point 100%. The rice was perfect and the guacamole was very good as well. All fresh. My daughter had the ground beef enchiladas with chili sauce and my son had the kids Chicken Quesadillas. They both LOVED their dishes!
Now to end this lengthy review, I am.goning to explain why I put so much into it. As I said above, my Son "was" not a fan of tex/mex, but he so loved the food and atmosphere, the friendly staff and jovial owner that he leans in and said...."Dad, this is one of the top 5 places to eat...EVER!" I was SHOCKED. He always tries to say no to tex/mex becaise all he ever really ate was the queso. After that, I told him he should not tell me, but should tell them. The Owner, Gilbert, came by once more as we were finishing up and my looked at him.amd repeated those words. You could see pride of ownership in that Man's eyes.
So if you are in the Willowbrook area, heck even if you aren't, stop on in to this little place and enjoy a wonderful meal with amazing people and food. You will not...
Read moreJust moved to the area and already had some excellent Mexican cuisine. Unfortunately it wasn't from here!
Pros: very friendly staff! It seems like there are several families that are regulars here and have established relationships with the staff. I love that in a restaurant. I would highly recommend this place for drinks and chips and queso and salsa.
Cons: the facility itself could use an upgrade. Everything just seems dated and rundown. The food was the worst part though. The tortillas are STORE-BOUGHT?!?! The ultimate sin when it comes to Mexican food. I don't know, it just wasn't great. I enjoyed my plate well enough, but not enough to come back. My family didn't like their plates at all.
These seems like some amazing people and I wish them the best of luck. Would consider coming back if some...
Read moreI have eaten there for many years. The food has always been exceptional. Gilbert is great, always greets you & chats for awhile. But, this time, I was disappointed. Ordered fajitas. The meat was not seasoned as it has been in the past. The tortillas were paper thin & greasy. Did not taste
good. The pico de gallo had cilantro was turning brown. Ordered extra pico & guacamole & payed more for it but, didn't get it. There is a new person working alongside Gilbert. Someone had written a review saying he was a new partner & that the food wasn't as good as it used to be. Don't know if he is a partner but, the quality of the food has definitely gotten worse. I hate it. It was really a good place to eat at. Will try once more to see if I have to find another restaurant or not. Hope not. Hope it was just...
