I had a great experience visiting Lucian's Caribbean Grill! It's only 15 minutes from Hobby airport and easy to find. As I entered, I was greeted by the young lady behind the counter who was very knowledgeable about everything on the menu. I like the idea of having certain items only available on certain days and so I'm glad I came on a Saturday because I really wanted to try the jerk pork! I also chose the curry beef which I have not seen offered anywhere else. I chose greens and plantains for one plate and steamed cabbage and mac n cheese for the other plate and rice and peas for both plates. I was impressed by the variety and the number of items that I have not seen at other Caribbean restaurants. While waiting for my order, I walked around to admire the design and decor of the restaurant. There are a lot of tables and plenty of space so it doesn't feel crowded. I was surprised to see a couple on the stage live DJ-ing the music playing from the speakers. I was almost startled when I heard my name called behind me, another young lady brought my to-go order to the front in less than 5 minutes! She briefly opened the to-go boxes to show me what I ordered and it was beautiful to see and smell! I was very happy with the portions and the amount of food that fit into the boxes. The collard greens (recommended by the lady that took my order) were so flavorful and tender. The Mac n cheese pie was the best I've ever had, so creamy and cheesy. And you know, steamed cabbage is steamed cabbage, but this was full of flavor. The curry beef was just like some of the best curry chicken but with stew beef that was cooked down to fall apart tender. The jerk pork was also similarly tender and cooked with very nice jerk season and was so juicy with little bits of gelatinous fat on some bites that just burst with flavor! I was also given a guava jerk sauce which is amazing and a cup of sliced habanero pepper with what seemed like olive oil with a little pesto which was a nice touch to mix up the choice of spice and flavor to alternate dipping the pork. If I lived closer, I would quit cooking Jamaican food at home and just order here every day! I can't wait for the next time I come through to try more items from the menu! Oh and definitely looking forward to the new items coming to the updated menu that is still in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMiguel was our waiter and Lucian help serve. If I could give them 10 stars I would. Service was amazing. We visited 30 minutes before closing on a Thursday. And they still provided excellent service, hot food, and a wonderful atmosphere.
Appetizer:𤤠The Sampler: We picked coconut shrimp- nice and crispy and still meaty with shrimp. The coconut flavor was distinct but not over powering, Onion Rings- he said twice how the onion rings were so good. The were crispy and tossed in this sweet and savory sauce. So good yall, Spring Rolls- I love some spring rolls and these were right through and through. I hate when my spring rolls are gushy on the inside but these were just right. Jerk Wings- nice and tender. The jerk sauce was good We would have liked for them to be more crispy and more of a smoky flavorš.
Side of fries: Nice and crispy but soft on the inside. Lightly salted and served hot.
Entrees: Oxtails plate: Oxtails fell right off the boneš¤¤. They were seasoned well with a good flavor but not over seasoned. And trust me, I've had some that were over seasoned. Oh and they served a good amount of oxtails too! Sauteed Cabbage- Seasoned well with a nice crunch, Plaintain- I asked for mine to be brown. I like plantain but I love them when they are well well done. Rice and Peas- Now who can mess up rice and peas? Some people but not them! They had a nice taste, not bland at all.
Jerk Chicken Plate: Jerk Chicken- The jerk sauce was good. Meat was nice and tender and juicy. Again we wanted the meat to have a more smokey flavor. Now that's just our preference and its not to take away from how good it wasš, Rice and Peas- like stated uptop they had a nice flavor, not bland at all, Macaroni Pie- definitely macky! Had a nice flavor to it. Not cheesy but still good!, Cabbage - stated like before, seasoned well with a nice crunch.
Juice: Mango Juice- Good. Not too sweet Passion Fruit- Good. Sweet and tangy
Togo: Another order of Oxtails, Cabbage and rice...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy favorite types of restaurants are the places you can feel at home, linger for a while, strike up a conversation with other diners, and get to know the owners. Lucian's Caribbean Grill is definitely one of those!
A week ago I swung by to pick up some Jamaican patties and they were so fresh and delicious. We thought we'd go back tonight to dine in and try more from the menu.
My oldest son, a soda aficionado (much to my chagrin), tried the Cream Soda and loved it. He ordered the Jerk Chicken Wings (sauce on the side), and gave it a 5 ā rating. He described the sauce as "sweet at first but then it explodes in your mouth with a bunch of heat."
My youngest ordered the chicken strips and gobbled them all up. He says they're in his top 5 ever, which is a great honor.
My husband ordered the Curry Chicken with sides.of rice and peas, fried plantains, and steamed veggies. He ate it all and loved it. I tried some of his rice and I think I'll order that next time.
I had the Stew Beef with white rice, fried plantains, and spinach. The meat was extremely tender, the plantains sweet and tasty, and the spinach delicious. The stew meat went so well with the rice.
The owner came and chatted with us. Our server was friendly and timely. The TV's had football games and Caribbean music was playing in the background. There's a nice little stage in the back for karaoke night and live music, and a couple of small tables that I believe are for domino games. I also heard the owner talking about some plans for outdoor screens and fire pits in the near future.
So if you're looking for a nice, laid back atmosphere to grab some good food, watch some Premier League soccer, and have some nice conversations, head over to Lucian's! It's so fantastic to have a place like...
