To all the wanna-be pho and/or Vietnamese amateur food critic...let me explain: A pie in NYC is not the same as a pizza in H-town. Same goes for Vietnamese food, especially pho. The flavor changes as one head south from Hà Nội. So my suggestion is to try a few different restaurants and comment on what you like best and not trash what you don't like about a certain place just because it's not your cup of "PHO" :-)
Now on to my review:
Wife and I stop by to try out the Pho Binh Heights location today and I was going to get the pho but hostess recommended the "sizzling plate". I am a creature of habit but decided to try something new. I am glad I did, it came with two over easy eggs, cubed filet mignon over onion, slice of spam (yes spam), all was on a hot "sizzling plate". Also included was a small saucer of pâté and french bread on the side. The way you eat this dish is: tear off a piece of bread, spread a little pâté over it and either add a little bit of egg, or spam or the beef or all three. Overall, friendly staff excellent location and great food. As for price, it's higher but c'mon...if you go to the Heights, you should't complain...
Read morePho Binh is a great stop for Vietnamese food. All the great Yelp reviews are true.
The ambience is comfortable and quaint. Some things I loved: the patio, the chalk cartoons on the wall, and the lamp shades. (See pictures)
We ordered a variety of items for lunch. One of the most unique items we ordered was the spicy bone marrow as an appetizer. We did not see the word 'spicy' before bone marrow on the menu, so we were in for a surprise. It is served with toasted bread, which is highly needed for the level of spice. It just kept growing. Yet, I would go back for more. If you can't handle spice, don't order it, but it is a tasty dish that is worth the burn. ;)
My least favorite item was the combination pho. I didn't enjoy the taste of the broth as much as just a brisket pho.
Everything was served quickly and correctly. I really enjoyed the vietnamese sandwich (only $5.50), spring roll with shrimp and peanut sauce, and the slice of carrot cake.
While we were there, the owner stopped by our table to make sure everything was going well. Great customer service. If I lived in the area, I would...
Read moreThis has to be the most delicious the most CLEAN Vietnamese restaurant I have ever come across. Their chicken and their meats are super fresh tasting and their grilled chicken is to another level. I have been to their other locations all over Houston and this one by far is the absolute best. Now let me tell you. Their egg rolls are good but this is where I did wish they would do their egg rolls like Mias Vietnamese Restaurant because if they did then this restaurant would be complete. But Mias has nothing on this restaurants other food items. Especially their chicken. I know I am messy and rough but I want you all to understand how you are not going to find anything like this restaurant. And if you do please tell me where. I am always open for the best regardless where it is at. Their Pho soups are perfection. Their sandwiches are divine. And their spring rolls are delightful! Trust me I am hard to please but they managed to do so. Don't forget to try their...
