Tacos A Go-Go has always been there for me. It was the first local eatery I experienced when I moved to Houston more than three years ago. I was initially weary since I had lived in El Paso, Texas, a majority of my life and have had my fair share of Mexican food over the years.
Ever since my first visit, though, Tacos A Go-Go has become a good friend to me. It’s been there for me when I needed a place to start out with and/or end a night of going out on White Oak with friends. Sometimes, it’s had to be there for us the morning after. It’s been there when I needed to shut up my visiting Austin friends who said that Houston doesn’t know anything about breakfast tacos. And really, what’s better than a place that can shut up those holier-than-thou Austinites?
The restaurant on White Oak is not very large, but the quick turnover helps to prevent it from getting too crowded. There are even small patios in the front and back if you would prefer your tacos al fresco. The menu has a great selection of breakfast (breakfast served all day!) and regular tacos with plenty of unique ingredient options. My personal favorites have to be the jalapeno/cheese/bacon and pork guisada tacos. They also have several typical Mexican platter options (migas, quesadillas, tostadas, tamale, gorditas, etc.) for both breakfast and lunch/dinner, as well. The platters are decent, but if you’re going to a place called Tacos A Go-Go, you better be ordering the namesake.
The restaurant also has a good bottled beer, liquor and margarita selection to complement their food options. My personal favorite is their frozen jalapeno margarita. It may not sound too good on paper, and the spiciness might be too much for some people to take. However, if you can handle the jalapeno, these are definitely one of the most delicious and unique drinks you can find in Houston.
The inside décor is pretty fun, with a lot of artwork and posters inspired by Mexican culture (Dia de Los Muertos, lucha libre, etc.). The restaurant stays pretty busy, with lines going outside of the door. They do offer a take-out option for those that live close by. Parking can also be a problem on crowded days, which is pretty much on par with most of the businesses on White Oak.
Is it the greatest Mexican food you’ll have in the city? Probably not. However, I do believe the quality of food options, reasonable prices, and intriguing atmosphere combine to make Tacos A Go-Go one of the most enjoyable and unique dining experiences you’ll get in Houston (or Austin for...
Read moreThe food and service here are consistently excellent. I love the Dos Tacos plate and the breakfast tacos. The beef fajita tacos are great! I especially like how they are sincerely willing to customize your order however you desire with no problem. I highly recommend this place. Every single time I visit I'm welcomed with good customer service. My recent visit amazed me even more. The changes they've made due to COVID shows their sincere desire to make customers safe and comfortable. They offer delivery, curbside and in-house dining. For in-house dining they provide an airy patio and at each table a sign confirming it's been sanitized, and a placard on the table that allows you to order and pay from the table. After a table is vacated, the staff cleans and sanitizes the area in preparation for the next customer. Plus hand sanitizer is readily available for customers and in the restrooms the water is hot when washing your hands. And the food, I can't say enough good things about the food. If you haven't tried this place, try it. You will not be disappointed. This location works hard and it shows. If any local business deserves your support, this place is it. Oh yeah I forgot to mention, the guacamole...
Read moreEvery every time I’m in the area, I make sure I stop by! The tacos are amazing! The customer service is always great! Micheal, you are awesome
However, today when I left the gym, I attempted to call in my order around 1 PM. Jasmine answered the phone. She seemed to be very overwhelmed. She was doing her job answering everybody professionally, but hung up the phone on me. I work in hospitality, I understand lunch rush. When I called back, Mike answered the phone and gladly took my order.
I went inside the restaurant to order Jasmine Did not greet me at all she simply just waited at her register until I walked up to the register to order my breakfast taco..
Every question I had about my Taco. She seemed to be very combative and snappy. There wasn’t even a line the lunch rush seemed to pass.
This is a great establishment, Jasmine please work on your customer service and treat everybody the same! You are working in hospitality, be slow to react, listen and pay attention.
Just because you’re extremely loud does not mean you’re right sweetie calm down
You definitely brought such an awful energy. I will return on the days...
