We went to River House and overall it was a positive visit. TL;DR - it was good, the cocktails were great! The food is a little pricey for this side of town, but not over the top. The view of Downtown is spectacular! Some things that were great! - That view of downtown Houston at night is something else! Next level! - The staff was super helpful! We ordered chips and queso, and my boyfriend wanted the street tacos but we already had enough chips. Thankfully they stepped in and substituted with fries. - The margaritas are very good. - Seems like they are using higher end quality ingredients - it comes out in the food taste and you pay for it with the price. The food is on the pricey side. - margarita was $17 - comparing to Ninfa’s $11-$12, or $10/each with a pitcher. El Tiempos is $10/each. - The burgers were $17 - compared with Rodeo Goat burger is usually $11-$15 before fries. - Street tacos were $18 - whew! - Chips and Queso was $13 (not including the brisket, that’s $5 extra) Other tips: - go in the evening and enjoy the view of downtown - If you get the queso, get it with the brisket. Excellent. We need to try the burgers, so can’t say much there yet. The steak street tacos were decently spicy (coming from someone who eats jalapeños and habaneros straight up) which is a compliment from him. He’s rarely satisfied with spice but was this time. Just watch the cocktails because they’ll quietly and quickly run up the bill if you’re not careful! (Photo is of the steak street tacos and fries)

My fiancé and our friends came to check this place out with me and we were really disappointed by the service. At any given moment you could look around and see a lost expression on the faces of the wait staff. Combined, my fiance and his friend have worked in the food industry for 20 years and were commenting how the flow of service was stopped up and impeding the quality of service. At one point all three hostesses were in the bathroom at the same time. Our waiter clearly didn't listen to our order and we had to clarify several times what we ordered immediately after ordering and we were still missing items and delivered the wrong drinks when our food was served. The bar was short multiple frozen drinks, our friend was served wine in a plastic water cup for $9, and beer/sparkling water was served overflowing onto us when it was served. The only saving grace was the fact that the food was delicious, with the exception of our stone cold nachos, which must have been ordered as a mistake by someone else and just sent out to us once our order came in. Overall the place has a great feel to it and the food was tasty, but the service is not worth the price point and not what you would expect based on how nice the rest of the establishment is. We will not be returning (at least to eat) until management does some remedial training with their poorly prepared wait staff who can't even record orders correctly, let alone serve drinks in the right glasses or operate in a...

Tanner the server was very polite, is something to highlight. But this place’s huge potential with the great view, decoration and space is being wasted.

Service needs to improve, once we got into the dining area of the club, we stood up there unattended for around 5min, clearly looking disoriented as is not obvious what to do or where to go once you get in. There were like 6 people at a stand at the left of the entrance, but still no one did the minimum gesture to welcome us and explain the dynamics. It wasn’t until we approached and ask that we were told who the hostess was and she ask us how many for the party and found a table for us.

Omelettes were really bad, they felt and looked saggy, you could sense the lack of love in preparation… for that quality of food is definitely overpriced and on top of that for a very little proportion, flavor wise food was also underwhelming, unsure if the quality of the buffet food is better. But everything we had (omelletes, potato sides, pancakes) was very bad and to fortget. Maybe the queso was decent, but other than that would not recommend having breakfast here.

Not sure if coming back, I mean at least burgers and sandwiches seem to be on a better tier of quality.

I insist, the place looks awesome, views are great and ambience rocks. But food and staff need motivation and love. Hopefully someone in management that cares about this place will read this and do...
