Perhaps the full name might be "Roots of Hatred", so horrific the bizarre business. I was in town for a conference nearby, saw the restaurant on Google Maps and downloaded an interesting menu. I pre-ordered through GrubHub which sent me a text claiming it had delivered my meal and charged me for it. I called the restaurant from the lobby of the conference location where I had been waiting 1.5 hour for delivery. The restaurant operator said GrubHub never have them the order. She INSISTED I come dine in for the next meal. She said it was quite close to the conference location. I said it looked close but I have a physical disability and it would take me a while to get there, so I would come after the morning conference session ended. The horrific sidewalk neglect in the area made this a much more perilous trip than anticipated, but eventually I got there and found the restaurant is not accessible. Why did the manager INSIST I come dine in person after I told her that I had a physical disability when they exclude customers with mobility limitations from the restaurant? I called repeatedly and ask them to bring the food up the steps. Each time I was told the food was ready and someone would be bringing it out. This continued for 30 minutes. I waited just in case they had actually started to prepare the food--I did not want to leave without paying fjr any food they had prepared. Plus now there was no time left in my schedule to get food elsewhere. But this continued, with me in the restaurant entrance at the top of the stairs, clearly visible to all the employees who ignored me and never brought the food. I had to settle for a bottle of Starbucks from the corner Express Mart which had more gaming machines than food.

Try the Chicken Pepe Nachos with extra jalapenos. They are addicting. I'm obsessed.

Roots Mexican Restaurant is a place that truly stands out — it has class, charm, and amazing flavors all in one. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with a warm, welcoming atmosphere, and the staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home. 😊

Their special salsa is the real star of the show. 🌶️✨ It’s not just any salsa — it’s perfectly balanced, flavorful, and has just the right kick. Honestly, you’ll want to drizzle it on everything, from tacos to chips. Every bite bursts with fresh, authentic Mexican flavor.

Beyond the salsa, the food across the menu is consistently delicious. You can tell they use high-quality ingredients, and the dishes are beautifully presented with generous portions that leave you completely satisfied. Roots manages to take traditional Mexican flavors and elevate them with a unique, refined touch that makes every visit feel special.

I do miss the small pancakes they used to sell — they were such a fun little treat and really added something extra to the menu. Hopefully they bring them back someday! 🥞💛

If you’re looking for a Mexican restaurant with class, unbeatable flavor, and staff that genuinely cares about your experience, Roots is the place to go. I can’t wait to come back and try more of their amazing...

I have been reluctant to write a review for Roots Cafe - not because of the quality of their food or their service. More so because I am a little afraid of "ruining a good thing" that appears to be my little secret. We live in the Galleria area and have passed by the DCH (Decorative Center of Houston) on Woodway dozens of times. We noticed a sign for "Roots Cafe" near the DSC building, but could not figure out where the cafe was located. It turns out that it is inside of the DSC. Self and free valet parking is in back of the Exxon station on the corner of Woodway and Sage. I have now visited the restaurant about 10 times; mostly for lunch, but once or twice for breakfast. The menu is pretty big and everything we have tried has been very good and incredibly reasonably priced. I have mostly ordered the plate meals including the bowtie pasta bolognese and today's special; chicken piccata. I have had a burger and a BLT - both very good. My wife mostly orders salads but has also enjoyed their salmon dishes. The service is always good and until now, there has never been a crowd. If you are in the area around lunch or breakfast and you are looking for a "sit down" meal (although they do a lot of carry-out), give...
