This has the potential to be a great kayak launch, unfortunately I’d be afraid to launch a kayak here. The water is about 2 or 3 ft below the launch end, so when launching, one would have to step down into the water. Stepping down into the water wouldn’t be so bad, but there is a long piece of rebar sticking out of the water, and the begs the question of how much is there that you can’t see? When Buffalo Bayou is higher than normal, it dumps a lot of mud onto the boat ramp down close to the bayou, so you will be waking though the mud to launch if you don’t shovel a same path first.

It’s got a big plus for having trailer parking here. Can definitely park 2 kayak trailers here, maybe 3 if they are small. I use a Jeep and a kayak trailer, instead of a rack on top of the Jeep. There is a big minus here, because the sign at the entrance says 2 hour parking. I’m not sure if that 2 hour parking applies to all vehicles parked or not.

Ways to improve this would be this: Remove the time limit for parking here, or at least make a pass system. I’d be parked here all day if I put a kayak in. Provide lower access to the water, an actual ramp into the water would be great, or a 1 ft step at standard bayou levels. Clean up the water directly in front on the water access, remove any nasty rebar that’s in there. Have park personnel heck the ramp, and shovel off any mud that may accumulate on the ramp.

Edit: today I went back and check it out with a higher water flow. I like it a lot better at this higher water flow. That still doesn’t take away the rebar which is...

Didn’t even know this was a kayak ramp until I later Googled it. Just out exploring. Always passed by & was curious about this trail/park… but rather quickly became a bit creeped out by all the overgrowth, neglect, and vandalism. Never made it down to the ramp due to overgrowth seen in attached photo. Such as shame. Looks like a potentially...

Pretty cool and isolated from the rest of the park. They should trim the brush and maintain the driveway in. And please, please restore the outdoor chimney and the water tower areas. Do not allow the Water tower to fall into the bayou due to erosion. Please...

The fishing is great, very very limited space, as far as a kayak launch it’s not really this at all just a muddy trail and a concrete drop off into the bayou with some rings to tie off to. But it’s peaceful and the parking lot has plenty of room. Overall I like it. 🤷🏼‍♀️😂
