This is a good old fashioned diner, period. You'll not find culinary works of art or trendy fusion anything. What you will find is an incredibly understated dining room, very roomy with a combination of 4 and 6 top tables and booths as well as counter seats. You'll need to come early to get a table with no wait. Otherwise, you may need to stand in line, but don't worry, lines go pretty fast because if the efficient service staff and kitchen. The menu has plenty of tried and true food options to choose from for both breakfast and lunch. Everything is made to order...no frozen anything here. The portions are generous without being obnoxious...but Styrofoam to go plates are available if you get too ambitious when ordering. Most of the front staff has been there for years, I imagine the kitchen staff are also Tel Wink veterans as many do look familiar everytime I go and peek through the kitchen counter as I glance at all of great food placed for service. Please leave any expectation for trendy, hip eating or ambience for another restaurant. Do prepare yourself for good old fashioned Americana breakfast and lunch, go to favorites to tale care of your cravings; omeletted, hash browns...done! Pancakes or waffles...dones. Huge fresh made biscuits and gravy...say no more. Coffee refilled before it ever gets cold and what else can anyone possibly want? The only downside are the hours, this is strictly a breakfast and lunch place, closing at 2pm...sadly for us but genius for the ownership and staff. Go for the food, be surrounded by fellow diners from all walks of life and ages that love and appreciate good, fresh food at...
Read moreI was so excited to come back to eat at Telwink after 10 years being away from Houston and was excited to have my other half experience it. This was by far the worst experience I have ever had with any restaurant. Was told to sit down wherever we liked so we did. Waited for quite a while before I waived down someone and boy that was a mistake she had the worst attitude as if I was bothering her. I’m very sure it wasn’t her section I just wanted to ask if she could get our waitress. She took our drink order and brought back our drinks with attitude. Another waitress took our order who was a little more pleasant but the first waitress brought our food to the table and she dropped off the food in disgust and left didn’t ask if we needed anything more more mind you my other half ordered pancakes and there was no syrup so had to ask for that as well. I am a server and have run many restaurants and this type of service was very unacceptable. I was embarrassed that my other half had to go through this after all I did was praise this business. Never again. If I could give no stars I would. And that waitress needs to fix her attitude or management needs to fix it. No customer should have to go through what we did. Our visit was on 5/09/24. Wish I had gotten the ride waitresses name. Short younger...
Read moreWhen I walked in, I had no clue where to go. There was no signage to let me know that I was supposed to seat myself and the only nearby worker I saw was the cashier who was ringing up someone.
Once I figured out that I'm supposed to seat myself, the waitress handed me a menu and asked me what I wanted to drink. I don't even know my options at this point so I tell her a eed a minute.
She comes back shortly after, I tell her I want a chocolate milk and that I'm still deciding on food. She stands there, writes down the chocolate milk, and waits. Once she sees that I'm still deciding, she goes to grab the chocolate milk, comes back pen in hand, and just waits for me to decide what I want to eat. I felt VERY rushed and they weren't even busy.
I order my food and it comes out fairly quickly. The waffle was delicious!!! The omelette tasted something like something an average person would make at home. Also, I'm like 97% sure they used sliced cheese on the omelette which I was not a fan of. The grits were a great texture, but very bland even after butter, salt, and pepper...
