I frequent Velvet Taco because I think they have truly unique and delicious tacos. I had never been to the location in hobby before, but it's a nice little oasis as you wait for your flight You can either dine in and sit at the bar, or you can go through the Togo line. The menus are shown at the entrance and on the wall inside. You can order tacos, bowls, sides, and other starters. They also have beer on tap, margaritas, etc The staff were friendly and helpful. My meal arrived incredibly fast. I will say the bartender was a little distracted and I didn't get my beer until a bit after the food arrived when it should have probably arrived first. I also witnessed him add salt to a margarita when a customer specifically asked for no salt The prices aren't much higher here than at their normal brick and mortar, but the beer was almost half the bill at $13 for a modello pint Some tips: You can take your margaritas and other drinks to go. I would recommend the chicken tikka Marsala taco or bowl and the blanco queso with blue corn chips always hits the spot Cheers!!

I walked up to Velvet Taco and the bar was full so I wandered over to the other line which I found out was to-go. When my order was ready, the bar had cleared so I sat down to eat my food. I was told to get up unless I start a tab. Uhm, I just bought your over priced tacos and I can’t sit down and enjoy them?!? Alrighty then! So I walked to my gate…only seconds away and sat down to eat. The tacos were nasty and cold. My queso was cold. The chips were not very tasty. I expected at least, similar quality as Velvet Tacos outside the airport. It’s not and the customer service is not satisfactory either. I liked the presentation of my meal but the actual meal was not good. I would not recommend.I wish they’d get some decent food in Hobby. I’ll go back to eating before I come to the airport until there is a new place to try!

The food and atmosphere were amazing. They have a smaller square footage than other restaurants at the airport and thus seating was limited. Seating is limited to the bar. But with such a warm and friendly environment, people easily made space to accommodate other’s dining. Another diner recommended the brisket taco and this was amazing. The serving size and heartiness of the taco make it well worth the price, especially if you get the combo. Alex was an outstanding host and server. And extended superb hospitality! I definitely would come here again. The only limitation is that I do feel the floor plan would make it difficult to navigate in a wheelchair.

We tried this place on April 20 2024 around 1PM. There were no seats at resturaunt bar seating area when we went in to order. We had 2 couples that purchased around $100 in food and drinks and asked for it to go since there was no seating available. When we received our orders some seating had opened up so we went to sit down. We had 4 people and 3 seats available together with room to move another so we wnt to move an empty seat that was open 2 spots over and the rude bartender said we couldn't move the chais because they were numbered. They had no numbers on the chairs however since he was not letting us move the chair 2 spots we politely asked the nice lady next to us if she was ok to move down 1 seat so the 4 of us could sit together and she had no problem doing so. The bartender rudely shouted that he told us why we couldn't move the seats and was because they were numbered. Once the lady graciously moved down 1 seat we went to sit down and the rude bartender told us we could not sit at the restaurant bar seating (The only seating in the restaurant) because we ordered our food and drinks to go and if we wanted to set there we would be required to open a tab at the bar. We ended up having to leave the restaurant and eat our food elsewhere. The food was absolutely delicious but the rude bartender totally ruined...

Honestly the only reason I’m writing this is bc they charge $20/shot for casamigos. I get businesses need to make money but this isn’t commerce, this is stealing. And while I’m here let me share the rest of my experience.

Angel and his manager/coworker awkwardly argued in front of the customers. With his manager alluding to Adrian not working hard enough and Adrian defending himself. It was pretty obvious that his manager/coworker felt he didn’t do enough to help the other staff as the parting comment the customers could hear was “well he’s poured a couple drinks so it’s time for him to go take a break”. After my interaction with Adrian it’s hard to imagine his manager/coworker was far off point watching him waddling around acting all hot and heavy.

The tots with egg I ordered came out and the underside of the egg was black. They’re clearly not cleaning the surface of the grill between uses bc the black was pure carbon. Disgusting

And leaving off with the casamigos experience, I got my bill and was shocked at the price. So I asked Adrian if there was a mistake and he said no. I told him they charge more for two shots compared to what the entire bottle can be purchased for. He got incredibly defensive and said he’s been there for 9 years and he didn’t make the pricing. Top notch customer service man. Definitely...

WARNING: overcharges and does not disclose it, VERY surprised to see $50 for 2 skinny margaritas! What a rip off!!! Will never patron this place again.

Sat at the bar, server walked over (didn’t even smile, say hi, or how can I help you), and we asked if they had skinny margaritas. He said “yes” I can make them. The size we ordered was $15, alright on the price given it was an airport. So we expected $30-ish for 2. Got the drinks and got the receipt and could not believe it was $50 for a standard size glass, not even a bowl. When we asked him why the price was different than what was on the menu, he said he had to charge us extra because it was skinny. Fine… BUT HE NEVER said there was a $10 extra charge to make it skinny. We did not even ask for extra tequila. WTH????? Since we were in a hurry and our sons were with us, we didn't argue. I’m not sure what sort of management is going on here but seems shady given multiple reviews on pricing and a lack of transparency. I very much look forward to writing the Better Business Bureau, their CEO, and our Congressman for unfair and deceptive practices. ...
