River Street Pier — Restaurant in Howard

Disappointed in service! We got there Friday at 4:30, we had people visiting from out of town and needed table for 5, which they had an open table. Was not busy, which was why we went at 4:30, to beat rush. We said we had one person that would be joining us and he would be there in about 10- 15 minutes, and we wanted to order a cocktail before we had dinner. Server told us that we could sit at the open table, but if a large party came in before we ordered, they would ask us to give up the table!!!! WHAT??? I have never heard of such a thing. We ordered drinks and was looking over menu and server came over not once but twice to tell us that we needed to order soon or we may lose our table. We called our 5th person to ask what they wanted as we would order for them, and then placed our order. Sure enough a couple of groups of people came in, but our 5th person arrived shortly after we ordered. Are they serious!!! I was a server for many years and have never heard of such a thing, give up your table for someone else. I had called to ask for a reservation and was told they don't take reservations...which I thought odd as we were there a few Fridays ago , standing and waiting for over 30 minutes as they were packed, and a couple walked in door...waved at owner and she immediately sat them at a table!!! Which was why I thought they took reservations... guess you just need to be friends of the owner! Doubt if we will go back soon... if at all, food is ok, but you can get fish ad good as theirs and way...

Last week Friday I purchased fish to go. One large perch and one regular. When I got back to work with our fish it was obvious to us that we each had a regular plate of perch not one large and one regular. How did we know that, by counting the number of fish in the box. I called and reported that we did not get what we had ordered. They of course asked how we knew and I let them know we counted the number of fish in each box and they were the same. A regular order. Today I went to River St. again and they had a gift card for $3.70, the difference between a large order and a regular order. However the waitress came up to me and said the owner know's we received a large and a regular just like we had ordered because he had filled my order himself. So I guess he does not make mistakes and my integrity is only valued at $3.70. Well I don't need to go to place where the owner cannot admit a mistake. In addition I will tell everyone I know about this and hope they stop going there as well, because that's the kind of...

This is an old school local fish fry and bar, and we had a great lunch here with great service. The wife and I both had a small perch lunch in late. One with potatoes salad and one with fries and they both came with cole slaw, onion, bread and butter. Everything was great, the perch was fried to perfection in a light batter. It was great with the bread, onion and a little tartar sauce. Crinkle fries were done well, and the potato salad tasted like homemade. As we’re getting ready to leave, a nearby table had their clam chowder and potato soup delivered and it looked so good we asked our server if she could bring us a cup of chowder, which she was happy to do. The chowder, like everything else, was perfect. Clams, potatoes, carrots and celery in a creamy broth. Very well done. Loved it all and will definitely return if or when we’re in the area again.
