I haven't had a REAL Greek Omelette like this since back home in Detroit, in Greektown! I have been SO SICK of the SAME DAMN FOOD here in Youngstown: Italian EVERYTHING (and really, not that good), with a hint of so-so quality fast casuals and a smattering of locally owned places that have caved to higher costs by providing not fresh, but processed foods and heat and serve type dishes, passing them off as "made from scratch". Not De-Onna's in Hubbard! Per my usual, cheapskate searches on my citi-rewards acct, I happened upon this places coupon and had never heard of them. A little research and review sifting, I decided, Hubbard ain't SO far away from Boardman and why NOT give 'em a try! Talk about impressed! When we first got there, worry set in. They say they open at 10am and its 10:15 and the place looks closed. Now WHAT?! All the way here for a REAL Greek omelet only to be shown they were closed. Upon leaving the place, trying to Google another place locally, I see a lady, groceries in hand crossing the street looking like she's headed there. Stopped (in the middle of the street, I might add) and yelled, "Hey! Are you going there? Are they open?", and sure enough it happened to be the owner, who encouraged us to 'come on back! I never have a breakfast crowd', which we did, as I backed up the wrong way on a main street and pulled right back in their parking lot! Friendly, congenial and VERY welcoming, she let us while opening up the place and told us to have a seat while she gets get everything together asap. Which she did with bells on and a topic of conversation for each trip out from the kitchen! From here, I could go on and on about the quality, the service and the overall feel but I won't. I'll let YOU decide. What I will say is how nice it was to have a REAL GREEK OMELET for a change, not these usual, halfass attempts at one that look FAR more like an American omelet, THIS was the real deal, my friends. Hearty, flavorful and a single portion size that could have fed 2 people! FANTASTIC! BRAVA! Wundabar! A true, RARE find and a rare TREAT to be treated so well and served food so good....and FILLING!

Today was my first time that I ate at this restaurant, and even though that the restaurant is small, I really loved the atmosphere, how clean it was, and the server who served me and rang me out was very nice and friendly. Just a reminder: De-Onna’s is cash only and they do not accept debit and credit cards, but they do accept checks, and be sure to take money out of your account before you come here. On the other hand, the lentil soup was very nice and hot. Would I go here again? Absolutely yes!

FOOD IS AMAZING! Personally, I hate rice pudding, BUT HERS IS TO DIE FOR! (chocolate cake is dry & crumbly, to be fair, she doesn't make that personally, & her other desserts are crave worthy fabulous!) GYROS ARE AUTHENTIC & AMAZING ALL OF HER FOOD'S MOUTH WATERING! 95% is homemade from scratch! (soups, desserts, dressings, & sauces; whereas most restaurants purchase those items.)

WHY ONLY 3 STARS? Her dishwasher doesn't clean dishes well or barely at all & grease is left on everything! If her server takes initiative, when they're not busy, to re-wash the dishes, they're chastised for "wasting time."

Hope you don't have an allergy, bc she uses her rarely washed, ungloved hand for EVERYTHING = hello, cross contamination!!! Her utensils have mths old, baked on, grease in/on them, & some have mold in the handles. But, "That's ok, bc that part doesn't touch the food." (Then how did it get there if it didn't touch any?) 😶

They don't wash rags daily or even wkly. They don't replace kitchen & cleaning items that's broken, stained, gross, have cracks (where bacteria hides) or don't work. I bought my own items to replace/use, w/o a thank you for taking the initiative or reimbursement for spending my own dime. I got yelled at & told "You OWE me a BOTTLE of balsamic!" for wasting a 1/2 cup of balsamic vinegar by accident bc she refused to show what container she meant for me to use. Albeit, balsamic prices have gone up, it was a small mistake & the ONLY time my mistake wasted food or cost her money.

Her & her boyfriend are passive aggressive, nasty & downright ignorant to their help. That's just it... they are "the help." I heard their reputation, & thought people around town judged too quickly/harshly. Being a person that gets along w/everyone, I gave them a chance. I was wrong! I lasted 6 mths; longer than 4 other servers that didn't last the day or 1wk! She expects her servers to serve, dishwash, clean, stock, & cook if she's overwhelmed w/ ONLY cooking. She screams, "I NEED HELP!" (cooking) when the SERVER is SERVING, answering phones, & keeping customers happy while they're patiently waiting for her lag time, by bringing them water while they wait! She can play on her phone, look for recipes, or talk to her children while the server is swamped making her dressings, stocking, prepping ingredients, or answering phones, but she doesn't help them! She cooks a 5 course meal for her family most nights, gives all the dishes to the server to do at the end of the night, but complains & her boyfriend makes pointed comments about how late she gets home bc she's waiting for those dishes to be finished. (but again, doesn't help finish them.)

A regular customer came EVERY night for months from Camel, OH. He'd order dinner, pay FULL price, he swept & mopped the entire place to help her for FREE! He refused to let her pay him! But her dishwasher treated him awful. Then he found out more about how she treated me, witnessed it, & he never came back bc he was disgusted. He specifically told me he wouldn't be back anymore due to her behavior, bc she kept accusing me of the drawer being short, when she doesn't count the change, & pays bills out of it but then forgets she did it. She was too proud to call, ask him back, or even apologize! She called him ONE TIME when she KNEW he'd be sleeping!

Just my opinion, but she's only open 3 days/wk & THAT'S TOO MUCH FOR HER! She needs to retire, let someone else cook, or sell!!!

🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩(I guess after staying longer than any other server, and after a month of reliable, hard-working help for her, she kept the "help wanted" sign in the window! I should've known better... THAT'S a way to make your "help" feel appreciated or

She's SO nice & great to her customers; they think the world of her! Just DON'T work for her, unless you're a "yes man" w/o feelings. If you're going for food, some of her menu items are pricey in comparison to other LOCAL establishments, it's worth it for the taste, & unique menu items! You will not be disappointed!

If you call ahead,...

JUST ORDER FOOD! YOU'LL LOVE IT!

UPDATE: After being threatened with "action" over my review, & told I would be called out for being late, among other things that weren't accurate, I will admit to the entire internet world, that I was 1-10min late almost every day.  That is not like me, I'm usually the early one. I'm 42yrs old, a nurse, a professional, I was reliable, & at least showed up every day, which can't be said about her other staff. I called off one time bc I had severe pain & couldn't feel my arms/hands bc of a task that I did there the night before. I was upfront & honest about my medical issues, but showed up everyday, gave 100% & all my tasks were finished by end of day. I was/am still battling severe depression & at one point was suicidal due to the way I was treated there, & among other personal factors. I told her all of this!! I tried to have several calm, adult conversations with her about how the way she treated me was effecting me. She would be nice for a day or two, & revert back to the normal way. (nice = silent treatment)

But hey, when you gringe over, & use every ounce of energy to go to work to a place you're treated awful at, I should still be on time. I fully agree.

My bad. I'm sure they could lie more about how "bad" I was, but her customers, her other volunteer help, her wallet, her clean dishes & utensils, her standard of infection control would tell you otherwise! I attempted to up sell EVERY CUSTOMER I CAME IN CONTACT WITH, but was chastised for going through too many to go cups or too much dessert. But the money she made was ok but never acknowledged. I thought a server SHOULD up sell...? 🤔

There is so much more that I could add, even some good, but it's unnecessary. I was kind and honest about how she treats customers & how wonderful her food is. I stand by that a million %%%! If I could afford to, I'd eat there every day she is open! 5/5 stars for how she treats customers!!

HER FOOD IS PHENOMENAL. IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A GREAT PLACE TO EAT, THIS IS IT. 5/5 stars for food!!

A review isn't supposed to be only sunshine & rainbows. Most people only leave bad reviews when they are dissatisfied, & don't focus on the positive. I told the entire truth, good & bad, front & back of house.  That's how a review should be. They could learn from it, & avoid the negative in the future.  They'd still have help if they...
