Wing City - Grill & Seafood — Restaurant in Hueytown

Had been eagerly anticipating and patiently waiting for this restaurant to open. Noticed on 02/22/22 around 7:30 p.m. that they were open. I believe this was their first day being open but I could be wrong.

First, the catfish was the best thing that my wife and I had. This is a problem if the name of your restaurant is Wing City.

My order-10 Piece Wing Combo (BBQ Jerk & what should have been Lemon Pepper) (You can split the wing flavors 5/5 on a 10 piece.) As you can see from the picture it was not Lemon Pepper. I do not know what it was. I think they just gave me some hot wings. The BBQ Jerk tasted okay. The other flavor tasted okay. The wings were not coated/tossed well enough. Also, they need quality control. They need to ask you to check the order before you leave to verify that it is correct like other wing places do. The cajun ranch cheese fries looked good but they did not taste good. Maybe they bake and do not deep fry their french fries. Also, the combo should come with fried or plain fried rice. They were out of rice. How are you out of rice and you just opened?

My wife's order--10 Piece Wing Combo (Honey Lemon & Sweet & Sour.) The wings were not coated/tossed well enough. My wife liked the Honey Lemon Flavor. The Sweet & Sour were not coated/tossed well enough. It looks like they just drizzled some on or maybe used a ladle. My wife said the same thing I mentioned about the cajun ranch cheese fries.

We split the 2 piece fish which tasted good. Our issue with it is how do you give us 2 pieces of fish but only give us one piece of bread. Are 2 pieces of bread too much to ask?

Finally, the food was not hot enough. We went straight home after getting our take-out order. We stay about 3 minutes away from the restaurant. Our food was warm at best.

We are wing restaurant aficionados/connoisseurs. We have tried many locally. We know a hit wing restaurant when we taste it. This place has potential but it has some work to do.

Give them a try if you wish to form your own opinion.

I ordered a 4 piece wing combo and 15 I got home my order was messed up. When my order was ready, the guy behind the register put my food in a bag and said here you go. He didn’t even give me a chance to check my order for accuracy. I got home and noticed I was missing the fries on my wing plate. I called back to tell them my fries were missing and the guy that answered the phone hung up on me. I called right back spoke to someone else and told him I was hung up on previously then I explained to him my fries were missing. I told him I couldn’t come back that night but I wasn’t going to pay for something I didn’t receive. I was told if I didn’t come back that night to get my fries there was nothing he could do for me. I told him he just lost a customer. I will not return due to poor Customer service I received over the phone. I never got an apology for messing my order up. I watched two people dining in take their food back because their orders were wrong The person preparing orders in the kitchen eating wings whole fixing orders. I wish I had read the reviews before I made the mistake of going to this restaurant today. A friend who had recently ordered the wings, said that he didn't like them, that he never tried the fish. Since I had a taste for fish, I looked at the carryout menu that he had, which did not have any coleslaw or hush puppies, so I called the number on the menu to see if it was an item that was left off. The young lady who took the call said they did not sell coleslaw or hush puppies. I like Captain D's catfish, but I just wanted to taste their catfish, because I usually get a catfish dinner from Mom's deli in Bessemer, but this place is closer to home, so I ordered hush puppies, coleslaw and a sweet tea from Captain D's, and I ordered the two-piece catfish and okra from Wing City, what a huge mistake! The catfish, or whatever it is called, but it wasn't catfish was simply disgusting, it looked more like tilapia or whiting, with no taste! It was also rubbery..
