City Barbeque — Restaurant in Huntersville

First of all, when we arrived, we were told that they were out of ribs. Unfortunately ribs are the only thing my daughter will eat at a bbq joint, so that was a disappointing start. Second, we ordered the 3 side plate and the guy at the register did not seem to understand that the menu offers a $1 discount if you order three sides. So we did not get that discount even though it is noted 2 times on the menu itself. Think he needs a little more training. However, on that point, I think the menu is unnecessarily complicated. Most places offer at least one side item with a menu item. I don't like how the menu only has sandwiches (which I don't want the bread), or larger platters. I just want to get a single meat platter like most other places offer with a side. But you don't have that option on the menu. And charging almost $3 for a side in addition to a $10 sandwich seems excessive. We ordered sandwiches and were offered Texas toast or a bun, no mention that it would cost more for the toast until I saw the receipt. So I was charged an extra $1.50 each for Texas toast when I didn't even really want bread. I found the whole experience a little frustrating. We enjoyed the meats and the side salad was a nice size and good. The cole slaw and baked beans were average. All in all, it was not a great experience and there are other places that I like better for BBQ so we likely won't come back unfortunately. We've been a few times and I just don't like the menu options and the sides are not very compelling. The hush puppies are good though and the basket is a nice option and a decent size. And for whatever reason, their to go cup lids don't have straw holes which I found extremely odd and a bit frustrating so I couldn't enjoy my sweet tea on the way home since you couldn't put a straw in it. The only reason the store in Huntersville got a three is because the food was good. Walked in and get yelled at to put on masks. Medically can’t but still being yelled at even after explaining medically not suppose to. Should have left then, but we were hungry and was told this was great bbq. The cashier was rude. We have never eaten here and explained that, and was told it was all on the menu above. After receiving our food we thought it was odd there was no BBQ, dry. Got drinks and no ice. Told an employee and was told I would have to wait, she did bring us some ice after we were half way through our meal. Let me tell you when we walked in there was no one in front or behind us, there was three tables that had people, so not like it was busy. So as we are sitting there eating I am watching the employee who yelled at us to put our mask on is walking back by the grills without a mask. This was not a pleasant visit. And by HIPPA law we don’t even have to explain our medical condition, so you might want to explain this to the employees. Not sure we will be back. The world is so filled with angry people, and when we go out to support our restaurants, we do expect a pleasant experience. There are other restaurants that will treat us much...

Simply abysmal customer service by the man packing up to go orders. Subpar food to boot. I'd ordered the meals with individual names (as the website allows) and saw him throwing everything into a single bag. Asked him to please pack per instructions and his response was "what does it matter?" When I offered to do his job for him, he grudgingly started separating the food into correct bags. I noticed all the sandwiches looked identical even though they were different, and asked him how he knew which went in each bag. The response:"I don't know, I didn't make them." The food orders were indeed all mixed up, and I had to fix everything myself, getting sticky in the process. There were additional issues regarding huffing and puffing on the employees part just to get what was supposed to be included with the order, won't go into it here. Suffice it to say it was a miserable interaction and the food wasn't much better after all the trouble, cold and flavorless, BBQ tasted boiled not smoked. It's Midwood Smokehouse or bust for me from here on out. Screw this place. That miserable employee should not be dealing...
