This place is terrible. We just ate dinner there this evening, and the service was terrible; the food was overpriced, salty, and really out of place; and the atmosphere was basically that of a dive bar.
When we walked in, we were barely greeted by the hostess before she went to seat the group that arrived just before us. When she returned, she was still very unfriendly and tried to seat me, my husband, our infant in her seat, and my toddler at a table in the very middle of the restaurant. There were several booths available so I asked if we could sit there instead. She picked our menus and silverware and moved them to a booth without ever saying anything. I then asked if we could have a highchair for our toddler. She said, "Sure," but then proceeded to wander around the restaurant for five minutes before going back to her station. My husband had to go get the highchair. Their website says they are 'kid-friendly,' but the only 'kid-friendly thing they did was bring crayons. We almost walked out at that point and probably should have.
Next, we waited another ten minutes to have our drink orders taken (they were not busy). They had a beer special of Yeungling for $1.50 which my husband ordered and then the waiter told him it was only a 9oz. glass. The entire menu is overpriced and makes no sense for the bare-bones zero-personality atmosphere. I had the duck wrap with risotto as my side and my husband had the black bean burger with fries. The duck was drowning in sauce and the risotto was salty and under-cooked. My husband's black bean burger patty looked like the frozen ones you can buy in the store.
Our waiter never asked my husband if he wanted anything else to drink and took forever to bring our check. This was our first and LAST time at Killington's. Go elsewhere - there are much better places to eat in Huntersville than...
Read moreOur experience was mixed due to wild miscommunication between the waitstaff and the kitchen. When entering, this location looks a bit run down and sparse on the dining room side and the furniture is a bit...well loved. Not at all busy for a weekday diner and we were offered our choice of any table we liked. We would have loved a bit more of a welcoming atmosphere and decor, but the staff were warmly welcoming at least. We ordered the steak special and the fish and chips. The special was described as a cooked to order flank steak seasoned with Montreal seasoning and paired with asparagus and orzo, however what was delivered was a steak cooked in a seafood sauce with the described pairings. The person who ordered the steak has a strong aversion to seafood, but also strongly dislikes to complain or send food back to the kitchen. Thankfully, they are not allergic to seafood or shellfish and begrudgingly picked off the fish-tainted bits. I highlighted the discrepancy with the server upon delivery despite my company's great embarrassment who said that they will talk with the kitchen. The fish and chips was well portioned and absolutely delicious! At the end of the meal the check was unceremoniously dropped off without an exchange of words, though not at all impolite. I was disappointed that the bill reflected no adjustments for the erroneous steak special, but I was explicitly asked not to press the issue with the entre.
TLDR; I had fairly priced and well portioned entre that met expectations in a dive bar style atmosphere, but the issues between the front and the kitchen has cost me ever coming back with my partner. Also, beware of eating here if you have seafood allergies as they obviously do not take...
Read moreI wish I remembered our waitress's name because she was the best part of our experience. To start, the place was warm, fans were running full blast, but it seemed the A/C was just not cooperating.
We went for the fish and chips for my husband and he reports the fried haddock was great, but sadly we agree with other reviews, the fries are disappointing and soggy.
I had the duck wrap and found bones in the shredded meat. It also had an overly pungent (WAY TOO much vinegar) jicama slaw that I scooped out as the duck meat, sans bones was delicious. (Side note: their green beans Parmesan are just green beans with Parmesan sprinkled on top, so don't get excited, at least I can say they weren't canned or cooked to death!)
To be completely fair, the waitress and the manager offered to switch out my meals but I hate to waste food and I wasn't in the mood for anything else. They also comped the meal, so they care.
One detail, and I will also be fair with this: when I showed the manager the bones, she said, "We do our best, but that can happen." My opinion is that with that attitude an issue is just waiting to happen. Someone, someday is going to swallow a bone and it isn't going to end well. Either take greater care or take the dish off the menu.
So, with all that said, I don't think we'll go back. Just piling too much food on a plate and taking home the extra doesn't make a restaurant great for me. I prefer to finish what I've ordered while it's hot (or cold, if it's supposed to be) fresh and...
