Please note that this is their second location and it is located in 31952 Del Obispo St., Suite 300, San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675. From what I gathered, their sister property and the oldest of the two, resides in 7011 Warner Ave, Suite I, Huntington Beach, CA 92647. Grand opening for SJC was on January 25, 2013, so it is brand new to the area! We went for lunch today and our food experience was well above average, so I immediately want everyone to know this place exists in San Juan Capistrano. The place is pretty nice, ample, a little rustic looking, but one can tell they have spared no cash to set up nicely. Service was very good, done efficiently with constant attention. Food was well above average, and I am not kidding when I say it beats just about any mexican eatery in this town. You can tell they are making an effort to impress with their food and it shows. 3 of us went and had the following dishes: Fish Fillet on the grill (a la plancha) which came with delicious refried beans, and rice made almost to perfection, salad that was crispy with avocado slices, tomato, shaved carrots, warm corn tortillas. Cost: $8.99. The fish was a large serving, thin but well marinated, very agreeable. 4.5 Stars. Two Shrimp Tacos Combination Plate: made with small shrimp, and accompanied once again with the above minus the salad part. Cost: $6.99. According to the eater they were okey. Once again the beans and rice were commented positively upon. 3.5 Stars. Carnitas Combination Plate ($6.49) plenty of a tasty carnitas, warm tortillas choice, rice/beans. I did try these (more than a couple of times), great value and very decent. 4 Stars. Chips and Salsa, special mention for the salsa. Even though a little on the hot side, it was very tasty and very fresh. I just hope they can keep up the quality control, because all of a sudden they are the better team in an area that boasts several mexican places, but rarely transcends in taste and value. You can tell they are trying: so get them while they are hot or in a roll! Total amount paid for fine mexican food: $24.86? before tip. That alone is awesome. Nice place, unexpectedly good, well worth visiting. Specially now that they have coupons for their grand opening. Great Pozole and Menudo on the weekends, great caldos (soups), these guys are bringing the real action into a dormant town when it comes to specially good mexican...
Read moreUpdated Review: Called in an order for bacon breakfast burritos at 10:45 am (they said they serve breakfast until 11.am. Awesome, craving a delicious breakfast burrito.
When we go to pick them up, they say oops, we made four sausage breakfast burritos, and unfortunately we don't make breakfast items after 11. But you are the ones who messed up the order, so you should remake the food for the correct order. Nope. The lady offered a 10% discount if I would take the sausage burritos. 10%?! That's a joke! Most places that mess up your order would be happy to give you the food for free as a goodwill gesture.
But I really want a breakfast burrito! I ask for a 25% discount, very reasonable on my part I thought. Nope. 10% was as much as would be offered. Then the lady starts telling me it's my fault because breakfast is only served until 11. But I called the order in way before 11!! The nerve of you to be trying to blame your incompetence on me! I really, really wanted a breakfast burrito, but on principle, I could not.
Unfortunately, this situation was so ridiculous and could have been easily taken care of with a little customer service. As good as the food is here, I will no longer patronize Cancun after poor treatment. There are too many other worthwhile Mexican restaurants. And, they took the lengua off the menu, which was one of my biggest reasons to come here outside of breakfast time.
Previous Review four years ago: This place is an amazing gem in HB. Staff is awesome and friendly. If you like lengua, you need to come here. Salsas are delicious too. And if you have kids, they will love to go to Cool King for a treat...
Read moreOk it's Sunday and I've driven By this place enough times I thought I'd give them a try...A "BAD IDEA" I ordered a Carnitas plate for "Here" they packed it "To Go" as for the food I actually asked A woman and her Daughters were walking by for an impartial opinion. I asked her just by looking at my Carnitas plate what her thoughts were, Wow honestly the Carnitas don't look good at all. They aren't even fried chunks of Pork. They served you what looks like Old Pork strings that have been reheated over and over and they gave you little to no Beans. The woman was very kind and said "You made my decision an easy one". Me and my Daughters will Pass on this place for Lunch.
Honestly I'm just very disappointed this was served to me just so not right...look at my pictures they tell you the true story. The strings of Pork are dried up, and had a terrible old fried Pork grease taste. I got up from my seat bagged the container and gave the plate back to the server and said. The owner should see this because it's not right to serve this to the customers. She apologized and refunded me my money. I feel very bad because all I wanted was a nice little Mexican lunch all lonely on a Sunday afternoon and wanted some comfort food.
You never get a second chance to make a first impression as such I will never be back...Ever...
