Initially I tried to make a reservation but unfortunately, they had another large party coming in so they told me to either choose an earlier time or a later time. Since we had a large group, I had to double-check with the group if this was ok. I had a friend call in and make the reservation. Lo and behold, he was able to get us a reservation for the time we wanted for teppan. When I called, they didn't give me the choice and I'm assuming the other large party was for the sushi area. So definitely specify when you make a reservation!
Our group wanted teppan so we happily snagged the 7 pm slot. The restaurant is located on PCH by this motel and parking is valet but you can try your luck parking on PCH. Once inside, I went to the back bar to meet my friends. Free shot with Yelp Check-in! The night was off to a good start. Apparently they have all night happy hour on Mondays and Wednesdays, double score for us.
As far as teppan was concerned, we saved $10 off with the happy hour special of pick 2 (any combination of NY steak, chicken, shrimp, or calamari). I opted for the NY steak (medium rare) and shrimp. With our meal, we also received salad, soup, fried or steamed rice, vegetables and noodles. It was a lot of food and I was starving. They even accommodated my friend's request not to mix her seafood with meat as she has some food allergies. The food was delicious, but maybe it's because I was starving. I also tried some of my friend's Nigori cold sake and ordered a Kirin for myself. I thought I had ordered the draft but out came a bottle instead. No big deal since it was happy hour pricing.
If you've never been to a teppan show, you're in for a treat. Our chef and server kept us entertained throughout the evening. Our group had a great time. I can see how this place can get rowdy on the weekends but when we were there, it was quieter. It definitely depends on...
Read moreVery dishonest establishment. My girlfriend and I visited this restaurant on Valentine's Day for a fun date. When we arrived we found that there was no parking and were forced to wait in the lot for someone to leave which took about 15 minutes. After we finally got a spot we entered the front door and waited 3 minutes for anyone to greet us and tell us where we needed to go. We were directed to the back of the restaurant where our drink orders were taken. I personally had to order twice because the bartender/manager forgot my order. Then came a huge shock when we learned we could not order off of the normal menu and were forced to use the Valentine's Day only menu which was twice as expensive as what we had expected. This should have been mentioned to us when we made the reservation over the phone. The final and worst thing was when they refused to honor our groupon claiming that the fine print says they are not valid on holidays. The groupon says that it is not valid on "federal holidays" which Valentine's Day is not. I brought this up to the manager who then said he just wouldn't take it. He then lied again and said we were supposed to show it them before being seated which is not specified in the deal nor have I ever seen this before in the many times I have used a groupon. The manager said his name was Joe Harrington, which I suspect to be a lie again as the receipt says Joe M. He seemed very stern about not allowing us to redeem a groupon which even groupon customer support said was valid and should have been redeemed by Daimon. I hate to leave negative reviews, in fact, this is the first, but I feel like...
Read moreWe've been going to Daimon’s in Huntington Beach for YEARS. Been through several owners. Tonight will be the last visit. We made reservations for 6 in the Teppan room. Last minute addition to our party brought a severe scolding from the hostess. We told her we understood that an additional chair would crowd us and that we were willing to wait. She was just rude. We were seated by the owner - again with an attitude. Our drink order was incorrect - I had to go to the bar to get a forgotten water for my grandson - THE BIRTHDAY BOY AND REASON WE WERE THERE. We ordered and included 2 orders of sushi WHICH NEVER ARRIVED. The chef did NOT PUT ON A SHOW - with the exception of the onion volcano which as soon as it was lit, he poured oil all over the grill which destroyed the momentary volcano! He rushed through the service. No flair, no tossing of the food into mouths, no personality at all. At the end (after the bill arrived) one of the servers, who we have known for years, came and brought a slice of cake and sang Happy Birthday. Only after this did the sushi come out! We declined it as we were leaving and requested it be taken off the bill. The response was that it was because the restaurant was busy. Not true - We were there for an hour and a half and the front house (sushi area) only had 2 tables of customers. Sh!tty service and management need to be called out. Next day: Several in our party have been experiencing intestinal distress today. We did notice the debris built up but trusted the heat of the grill to kill off any pathogens. Don’t let our mistake...
