DeSimone Deli & Bakery — Restaurant in Huntington Beach

Pretty disappointing. I like delis and bakeries so i was really excited to try this place, and i'm a huge fan of italians too. However, The italian sandwhich is just uninspired . Super boring white bread, if it was any more dense or dry i'd say there was something wrong with it. Just passable as bread. It's not soft and light like store bought white bread, and it's not a fresh crackly french bread, just a really dry and dense boring white bread with no texture or flavor. Almost like you need a drink of water after every bite. I'm a home baker so i know good bread, this stuff is cheap and fast. Sure hope you like Italian dressing, cause that was the only discernible flavor i could pull from the sandwich. It overpowered the tomatoe, and the deli meats lacked any kind of contrast. There also wasn't enough cheese or onion on the sandwhich to taste it. Only reason i gave it 3 stars was because it was reasonably priced and they didn't skimp on the deli meats, but they need to rethink their bread and their Italian. I've had the cuban here before and that was even more dissapointing than the italian.

Do yourself a favor and go to lee's sandwich chain across the street. Grab a coffee and a macaroon while you're there....

So I remembered a friend of mine went to DeSimone Deli & Bakery. He told me that this establishment has been around for years with some of the best sandwiches and baked bread, etc. Great thing they are located in the same plaza on the West side next to Kung Pow Bowl Which is another hidden Gem with some of the best Chinese Kung Pow Chicken (Sit Down Restuarant with plenty of seating).

Being a First time customer here and taking my time reading many of the reviews, I ordered their 8" Pastrami Sandwich for under $13. It was delicious and packed a lot of great flavors! The bread was amazingly fresh, crispy on the outside, wonderfully soft on the inside, and not thick and doughy like other deli sandwiches. The ratio of the amount of bread in every bite is perfect!!! Some places have thicker doughy bread which steals the flavor away from the high light of the enjoyable Pastrami flavor burst.

If you're looking for a great Pastrami Sandwich, look no further!!! Try it and see for yourself. It was very filling for me.

This was maybe my 5th time, usually eating there to take advantage of the side bar with potato salad, macaroni salad,etc. I really like this establishment. The food, service,and the owner is wonderful as well. So we order and tell them we'll stay to eat but more than likely need to get a bag to take most of it home (I have had gastric bypass surgery and usually have to take most of my food home). And besides that my friend just had surgery yesterday and needed to get home sooner than planned. Soooo... We took our food to the counter for them to kindly wrap it up and they tossed out the macaroni salad!!! Cause"It's their policy". The side bar is only Free for the customers that stay in to eat their meals. I understand that but I asked if they had to throw it out or if they could make an exception. My friend and I heard that they would but didn't want it to be a snowball effect. I expressed that I appreciated it and hated that it would have to be thrown out. So we got to the car, realized it wasn't in my bag so I politely inquired about it... "No, it's policy." 😥 Maybe I should have asked for...
