For me my studies at New Masters Academy has allowed the development of my art practice in ways that I do not feel I would have been able to achieve in so short a time without extensive research and study of art books that more often than not do not allow the student to fulfil their full potential. I have studied for four years in traditional teaching programmes at University level achieving some success and obtaining BA (Hons) and Masters degree in art and painting. Throughout these studies my learning has improved and I found that being with a group of artists so fruitful for my development.
On completion of my degrees I felt that there was still a lot that had been left out of my education. The curriculum of my college and University did not cover the areas that I felt and still feel were essential to fulfil my personal journey as an artist. There was something missing and I looked for a way of learning the basics and the fundamental practices that would be able to sustain my art practice. I discovered New Masters Academy and thought that I would give it a try in the hope of learning something useful. What I discovered and still find that I am discovering is an environment in which students and tutors work together to achieve the most amazing and wonderful art that they are able to achieve.
I was concerned originally about my understanding of anatomy and the fundamentals of how to draw and paint. At first studying the fundamentals introduction courses available at NMA. From there I ventured into the study of anatomy with, in my opinion, one of the worlds best tutors in artistic anatomy. My tutor developed a comprehensive weekly journey through human anatomy and its development from finger tips to toes. Every part of the human form was covered with delightful detail under the skilful tutelage of Artistic Anatomy Professor Mr Rey Bustos. For me this course developed a confidence in accurately depicting the human figure. I would highly recommend this course to anyone who struggles with drawing and understanding the form of the human body. Mr Rey was always willing and encouraged constructive discussions on artistic anatomy and would often make the most difficult parts of the human body a joy to map out and draw. I always looked forward to our assignments and weekly live reviews.
Then my studies were further enhanced by learning with Steve Huston. His skill in rendering his insights in the use of mediums have been a complete eye opener and I find myself working in ink and wash now after studying the use of pen and ink with him. Then composition for the visual artist with Bill Perkins. In which I started to learn more about the overall placement of objects and the difference that tone and shape make on the viewing eye.
There is so much more that is available to the artist that has a desire to fulfil their potential in an environment that has been purposefully developed by Joshua Jacobo and several of the bigggest names in professional art today. A place that is welcoming and enhances your dreams by developing the real skills needed for you to fulfil your potential. I can only say from my own experience that NMA will give you more than you put into your studies and allow you to express your artist vision in ways that you had not thought about and with a surety that you are creating the best work that you are...
Read moreI would like to express my deep gratitude to New Masters Academy. It's really the best place for anyone who wants to be a real artist. I joined this Academy not so long ago (about a month ago), but I was immediately surprised how thoughtful every step was for our training. I have something to compare with, because I went through a lot of online schools for various activities. I can say for sure that I have never seen such an amazing approach to online education as New Masters Academy has.
Actually here you can get everything you need to be a real artist. But what do I mean saying "a real artist"? For me the real artist is a professional who can draw everything he wants even without references - nature, vehicle, buildings, people, animals, portraits. Drawing real look images even from imagination that's my goal and I'm happy that I found this website because it's really helpful on the way to get my goal.
For rather low price I get tones of classes which were pre-recorded by great professionals, also I get feedback to all my drawings during the course, and after finishing a course or a module I'm able to submit an application for a certificate. We study drawing from the very basics, moving from simple to complex.
Although I am not completely new to drawing, even the basic lessons have been extremely useful for me. I also really like that we learn to draw not only from photo references, but also from life. So if you are looking for school where you can get great drawing skills, be sure, New Masters Academy is a great...
Read moreFor $50/ month and readiness to learn, you can't beat the value here. The reason I don't give this 5 stars is because I think the website has been difficult to navigate, it takes some workaround on my part to find and access the classes that I want to attend, as well along with other annoying issues--HOWEVER--having said all of that, the classes and the value in the instruction I have received over the last two months of using this service have been exceptional. I took an 'Intro to Character design' live class with Larissa Marantz who is an experienced character designer currently working in the industry. Larissa took the time to critique every single submission (there were usually about 30 students submitting for a class). Larissa's critique was focused, practical and very well presented. I've attended 4 year art college for Industrial Design, and I've attended other live online instruction. What I got during this 8 week course is a lot closer to in person art school than to other online courses I've completed. If you are not attending a live class you will not receive critique for work you submit. This is one of those details they could be clearer on. So do the live classes! I haven't tried the 'coaching'. I would be interested to know more about that. It does seem very expensive and I wonder what the value proposition is there? Anyway, the $50/monthly subscription in my opinion provides very good value if you are attending the live online classes and regularly submitting work...
