Food was not bad, but I didn't give it 5 stars simply because other sushi locations seemed to have an small edge or zest in the flavor that seemed to not be present with this one particular experience. Though it's only my first time at this location.
I will definitely be back because this location happens to be within walking distance of my current residence. That being said, this location meets all the expectations I would look for out of a local spot, plus the staff were attentive to my needs without smothering me, other customers were openly willing to talk with the Chefs at the bar and the Chefs in return were sociable and pleasant.
I would definitely recommend this location as a good, fresh feeling spot with little to distract from the actual experience itself.
I would easily bring a friend or family member here, but if I wanted to provide some kind of extra special sushi experience, I may choose to go to a different location. Honestly, I hope that doesn't sway eaters to go elsewhere because the difference between this location receiving 5 stars vs. 4 is almost negligible. If I were to accurately score it, i would consider this location a solid 4.9.
I don't believe any standard or typical diner would be displeased.
I asked for a recommendation for a sake and was provided what turned out to be a perfect pairing for my current needs. Which in this moment was a hard days work in a train yard, and I am completely satisfied.
I ordered the hamachi cut roll, a salmon skin hand roll, fresh Wasabi, and a bottle of kurosawa cold sake.

Second trip a few weeks later.
I ordered a basic hamachi cut roll, Japanese pickles a large Sapporo, and fresh Wasabi.
I love that they have fresh Wasabi.
The Japanese pickles are interesting they have very earthy notes, almost like a yerba mate.
All in all, it's obvious this is a local location, and it's significantly busier than last time, but still I was able to walk in and sit at the bar with no problem.
Honestly, it's just a nice low-key sushi bar. Like a local dive bar, but not grimy.
I could come here in sweats or dressed too impress and I'd feel completely comfortable.
Simple and Good feeling.
Total damage on 2nd visit $15 and some change.
Third visit
Tonkotsu Ramen, Salmon cut roll, fresh Wasabi, and a large Sapporo
Under 30 bucks minus the tip. Shared between 2 male diners, my son and myself.
Ramen was good, not the best, but...
Read moreI really want to rate this place higher and will try it again, but only after dining out returns to a bit of normalcy. The service: I waited in line about 10-minutes outside to place my takeout order. I was told it would be 45-50 minutes, no problem. Upon return (40-minutes), I waited about another 10-minutes. The server who took my order asked if I had been helped and I told him I was a bit concerned that the people in line behind me originally were getting their check but I had no food. Oh... it had been sitting unattended in the queue for some time. He was polite but found it ok to basically tell me it was my fault and I should have gotten his attention earlier to check-in. That's pretty weak. The food: I thought the menu was intriguing. It's nice to see seared toro available. The garlic edamame was more oily than I've ever had. It wasn't bad but different (I probably wouldn't do this route again). The toro melted in your mouth as it should. The Bolsa Chica roll was both original and delicious; I liked the rice-free roll. The ikura was middle of the road, in my opinion but I have to suspect it's because of who knows how long it sat out. Overall: I want to like the place. The location is great. I like the intimacy provided by the small restaurant. Some of the food was really good. But it appears that they don't operate well during the modified business environment we're currently in. We'll try it again and hopefully...
Read moreSome of the freshest fish I’ve experienced. Fish quality reminds me of the fish market in Japan honestly! Well priced. At first I was debating getting the blue crab handroll for $9.50 - but it was huuge! So much crab they definitely don’t skimp here. Salmon was almost a buttery texture. Toro was sooo fresh and came with a surprise of a little bit more with scallion on top! Delish! Not pictured but if you like popcorn chicken, order their chicken karaage, with less salt!
Note the salmon nigiri + toro nigiri had a little bit of wasabi underneath the fish and on top of the rice bed. If you don’t like wasabi make sure to tell...
