Update: I fell in love with this place after visiting several times and wrote my review based on those visits. Things have changed. They still make good sandwiches, but the consistency and quality in my subsequent visits has gone down. Most notably the overuse of the dressing. It’s common for my sandwich to be drowning in dressing to the degree the bread is oily and I could wash my hands more than once while eating the sandwich. I ordered 3 sandwiches today and all three were soggy even though on mine I asked for “light dressing, light spread” still soaked in oil. I can’t justify paying $13 a sando for something like that. I’ll be taking a break from this place for awhile and visit my old favorites. Perhaps I took them for granted. It happens when you’re in love sometimes, I learned my lesson and now I need to go crawling back. Below is my old review and I do not stand by it anymore. I’ll give this place another try but it will be a minute for sure.

Old review: I love sandwiches. They are my favorite food group. That being said, this place makes really good sandwiches. I go here about once a week, sometimes more, and the consistency is amazing. For my tastes, the balance of protein, veggies and condiments is just right and the Dutch crunch bread is also really good. I used to have various sandwich places I would go to, but now I just go here.

The only other place in HB that competes is Ike’s. They are similar in quality, but I just like the taste of Subculture a little more. Their ingredients also seem fresher and have healthier offerings as far as...

Not sure how I missed this gem in my backyard. Subculture was ridiculous good. We saw a review on Tik Tok and decided since we live a couple of miles away to pop in on a Friday afternoon. The service was so friendly. The young lady taking our order could not have been more patient and welcoming. The owner was making the food and you can tell he takes great pride in what he does. The Dutch Crunch bread was so odd in a great way... It was crunchy yet soft at the same time...it made for a perfect base for the amazing ingredients and sauces placed inside. They put a garlic aioli on the bread...the meats are the best quality...and the sauces put it over the top, mine had fresh arugula and red onions as well. Best sandwich I've ever had anywhere...the Godmother was perfect. But don't skip the Garlic Cheese Bread...it was probably the best thing on the menu. It was on a soft pizza dough and had a balsamic glaze drizzled on top. It was to die for good...note we didn't even get a picture because it was gone before I had a chance to take one. Mike the owner came out was was generous with his time when he had a small break in the line out the door. We sat outside and really enjoyed the people and the conversations. The shop is busy and not very large but worth the wait when the food comes to your plate. I will be back. Congratulations Mike and Subculture on 15 years of serving the...

After order placed on a large screen which I might add is not a way to keep customers safe subjecting to millions of germs possibly COVID . I deconstructed our sandwiches which were Godfather to reheat them they were cold. ..found lot of lettuce 2 small tomatoes pieces in half and one piece salami 2 small pieces pepperoni one piece looks like maybe mortadella and that was it . $17.95;each ? $47.00 change with 15percent tip . Wow this is really not right I won't be coming back here again .This is just a Shame . I definitely won't suggest you come here and I've been coming for over 2 years now and it's just gotten worse.

My response to your response is had you put the ingredients on the sandwich to actually be a sandwich and not two pieces of bread with few small pieces of meat alot lettuce to filler then I would not find it necessary to have taken it apart. About eating it there my house is only 8 minutes away so the sandwich wasn't hot and it's impossible for us to eat there my husband is Terminally I'll and on oxygen 24 hours and can't walk. So thank you for your afer thought .... Be more mindful of your customers when they are paying you almost 1/2 $100 for 2 sandwiches and yes we are on SS Medicare so we set aside a special budget for this . But I guess we are not...

ICYMI - One of the best sandwich shops in OC right here at Warner & Beach Blvd. It’s their signature Dutch Crunch Bread that sets this place apart. To achieve that crunchy unique crust, a mixture of rice flour, sugar, water, yeast, oil and salt is mixed together and applied over the top of the dough then baked. In the Netherlands they call it Tiger Bread. I call it freaking awesome! My favorite was The Cuban: sliced pork, ham, swiss cheese, pickle slice, mustard YUM! I also tried The Powerhouse: Roast Beef, melted Cheddar, Bacon, POW sauce. And, The Caprese: Tomato, Mozzarella, Onios, Arugula, Basil Pesto, and Balsamic Glaze. As an option you can get this on Garlic Bread! @subculturehb - HIGHLY RECOMMEND! . . . . . #sandwich #subsandwich #bestsandwich #dutchcrunch #garlicbread #cubansandwich #roastbeef #caprese #capresesandwich #huntingtonbeach #hbfood #huntingtonbeachfood #orangecounty #ocfood #ocfoodie #reels #reelsinstagram #instareels #foodreels #foodreview #grubwithgreg #grubwithgregapproved

The wonder bread had a lot of questions. @subculturehb is possibly my favorite sandwich ever. First of all, it’s that Dutch Crunch bread that really adds the “step above the rest” to this sandwich. Where do they get this bread?! I would like to live at that bakery. Second of all, it’s their garlic spread/sauce. I usually get their large Subculture, and tell myself I’m only gonna eat half, but always eat the other half because it’s so good. You can build your own sandwich, but I think just going with their pre-mades is the way to go - and I usually always make my own. I reviewed The Little Pick previously. It has turkey, avocado, provolone, basil pesto, pickles, lettuce, dressing. Another go-to is their Firebird with turkey, melted pepper jack, bacon, pow sauce, jalapeño cream cheese, and lettuce.
