I had high hopes for this place because of the rating. They took my order, my payment info, and started preparing my food. 10-15 minutes later they call me back to say my card was declined. I confirmed the number and they ran it again. Declined again. Guy tells me it's CVV2 error. I ask if he needs to enter the number from the back of my card, but he insists he doesn't need it. I get my fiancees card, which draws off the same account (with over $2k in it at the moment), and it's declined for the same reason. Person insists again that he can't enter the number off the back of my card.
I start to get flustered and he keeps asking for another card or if I want to pay with cash (I have no cash on hand). My fiancee is in the shower and my son is playing outside, and I am not in a great position to run and get cash before the food arrives. I suggest we may have to cancel the order, but he pressures me to get cash because the order is almost done being prepared. I reluctantly agree and have to pull my son away from his friends to run down the street for cash.
I was hoping all the hassle would be worth it, with the great reviews...but when the food got here, I was underwhelmed. My curry was far from flavorful, my soup was passable. My fiancee's orange chicken tasted stale and hours old. Their shrimp fried rice was plain fried rice garnished with a single shrimp. Their wontons were nothing special, nor the sauce they came with, and my son's teriyaki chicken was pretty nasty, but he's 4, so he didn't know the difference. Overall, an expensive...

Read moreA Burmese friend recommended this spot for casual Thai food, so my friends and I decided to swing by during lunch break and gave it a try. Thai Pepper offers a Lunch Special from 11AM to 3PM, and each meal is just $10.95 which is a steal for the Huntington Beach area.
Each lunch combo includes: A small pack of crispy wontons (2 pieces) Salad Freshly stir-fried rice Your choice of protein/entrée.
You can even customize the spice level from 1 to 10! Since we were not sure how spicy they would be so we went for level 2 and they didn’t taste hot at all.
We ordered a few different dishes to share: • C1 Pad Thai (Chicken) • C7 Mint Leaves Chicken • C15 BBQ Pork • C17 Spicy Eggplant (Chicken)
The owner was super friendly and even came over to ask how we liked the food before we left. For $10.95, the portions were really generous and we all left full and satisfied.
There aren’t too many tables inside, and it seems like most people order takeout/DoorDash deliveries. Since everything is fresh made to order, expect a bit of a wait. If you’re in a rush, I’d recommend calling ahead.
