Good food but bad service. That’s what most of the reviews say, but unfortunately it got so bad that we won’t be ordering from Indian kitchen anymore. We already knew they were slow and kinda disorganized with takeout orders. We’ve only been there for takeout. We live 30 minutes away, so we only order it for special occasions. This time it was my birthday. My favorite food is Indian, and this is the best Indian food in the area in my opinion. My dad gets all the way home after an hour round trip, and we find out that there’s no rice at all in the bags for FIVE curries. Beyond that, there’s no tamarind or mint chutney for the pappadam (which is listed on the menu as coming with the condiments!!!). Yes, the curries are the most important part. But who wants to eat curry without rice?? Who wants to have to cook after spending an hour driving and more than $100 on takeout? And basmati rice is my favorite type of rice. So after dinner, my mom called and tried to get a partial refund or partial gift card. The very inexperienced sounding employees insisted they couldn’t do that and that the manager wasn’t there. They decided that the best they could do was to leave a note, and give us their name, and my mom would come in next time she was in the area. She came in today and explained the background and gave the name of the employee she talked to. There was no note there and no one knew anything about the issue. She asked to speak to the manager. He didn’t apologize and didn’t care. He was rude. He insisted that the rice and condiments were free, so there was no issue. We could just eat the pappadam plain. We spent over $100 at this ridiculous restaurant, didn’t receive 1/3 of our food, and have no right to complain in their eyes? It was finally clear to us that their widespread bad service starts from the top. No ownership for mistakes, no desire to improve, no interest in providing an experience that’s worth the money. The manager also said he doesn’t care about bad reviews and that all of those experiences don’t matter. Also, their “spicy” level isn’t spicy and their bread is overpriced. I’ll just mourn the glory days of saffron and wait till I move to a city that has really good Indian food paired with good service. And let me be clear- their food is the best in the area, but it’s no saffron, and it’s not at all the best out there....
Read moreI have never eaten in a real Indian restaurant before--just a couple of small take-out stands in large cities.
The person with whom I was dining has had experience dining in Indian restaurants so I followed his lead and my own instincts based on what type of food I generally like.
One of my favorite foods, and one that I do not often get to eat, is lamb. With that in mind, I decided to try the Lamb Tikka Masala. It was served in a metal bowl. There were a great deal of lamb in the mixture (see the photo). There was also a lot of it. I ate about half of the dish and got a take-out box for the remainder to enjoy it later.
It was a tomato cream sauce with spices harboring a different flavor than I am used to experiencing. It looked like a thick tomato bisque soup and had some tomato flavor but with different spices.
I also had a Naan bread to accompany the dish. It was very much like the pita bread often served in Greek restaurants and had a similar flavor. There were four large slices of bread.
Overall, the meal was very filling.
My dining companion ordered the Tandoori chicken. It is pieces of chicken with yogurt and spices and cooked in a clay oven. I had one of the chicken pieces and liked it very much. Again, a different spice than I am used to having but it tasted good.
The chicken was served on a plate that was sizzling when it came out. Obviously, it was very hot and an impressive presentation with the chicken sizzling rapidly.
For a drink, I ordered Masala Tea. Again, I had never had this tea and ordered it on a whim. It was very good. Strong black tea with milk and spices, probably cinammon and some other spices. It was robust and filling and served hot.
This restaurant is in the back of a shopping center and can be easy to miss. Until we got close, I did not see the sign although we were looking for it.
The meal was tasty and the prices were very reasonable. The servings were generous and many adults will have food left over to take home for another meal.
For those who have not tried Indian cuisine, this would be a good...
Read moreCAUTION: COCKROACHES CRAWLING IN DINING AREA! CANNOT SAY WHAT WOULD BE THE STATE OF THEIR KITCHEN.
One of the worst experiences in visiting a restaurant. Saw a cockroach crawling under our table. When it was brought to the attention of the wait staff, they didn’t seem to be very concerned about it, giving an impression that this is a common sighting for them. Since we had just gotten seated, we asked them to change our table, but they ignored that request. After a while one of the staff brought a broom and pan to pick the cockroach. It surely makes to think that what would be the state of their kitchen?! The worst part of this incident is that when we were paying our check and the girl asked if we found everything okay, we obviously mentioned that the cockroach situation was not something that we liked. Her very casual response was that the cockroach came from outside, they cannot do anything about it. On asking her if she had reported that to her manager, she said that she told the owner who is in the kitchen, but he is very busy and does not have time to come out! Really! You have cockroaches crawling over the place and this is your attitude to handle the situation. After that the lady just threw her arms up in the air and screamed for the owner to come outside. The person came out and seemed to be helpless in responding to the situation and to the attitude of his employee.
There were open ceiling tiles in the dining area, which should not be the case as rodents and other crawlers make it as their entry point.
A BIG NO TO THIS PLACE. STAY AWAY. HEALTH DEPARTMENT NEEDS TO DO A THOROUGH INSPECTION AND HAVE THIS PLACE CLEANED...
