We had dinner there tonight.
As we entered, there were people cashing out at the register, so we waited at the front podium for someone to greet us and were ignored for several minutes...even though the staff had seen us come in and were all nearby. When we were seated, I ordered a sangria. What I was served was a no-frills drink, sans ice or garnish. No fruit, no jazz; I did not recognize any brandy or soda water in my drink, but it was sangria and a decently-sized glass. The mild salsa was pleasantly light, reminding me of a gazpacho flavor, but nothing spectacular. The chips had a crisp texture and were enjoyable alone. I ordered the beef fajita and found that to be very tasty, also the accompanying rice. The meat was a bit chewy but the overall flavor made up for that. The guacamole was well-seasoned and fresh. For dessert I had ordered flan but was then told they had none, so instead ordered fried ice cream. What was presented to me was not fried ice cream. It was a large ball of vanilla that had been carelessly rolled in whole corn flakes, but not enough to cover the ice cream. Just a quick effort as a nod to what it was supposed to be. But it had not been dredged, covered in crumbles or fried. There was no coconut, caramel or chocolate dressing the delicacy, and the sugared shell was stale. I was presented with ice cream and corn flakes, not fried ice cream.
For the price point, it's worth trying, but as I now see someone else has mentioned the NOT fried ice cream in another review (2013), maybe dessert isn't their...
Read moreFirst off the waitresses are very non friendly and the specific one was totally rude to me. I did a call in order for a burrito. I went to pick it up and she told me the amount of almost 12 dollars. I said we'll that doesn't seem right because that's not the price I paid last week. She said understand lady it's different prices for different people. I was like wow really. The week before I had placed the same order with a guy over the phone and he was also there when I went in to pick up. He charged me 9 and some change. He had an ok attitude but oh my the waitresses/hostess when you walk in they just stare at you and no hello or anything even when u speak first. I was like ok. But then for the female to tell me that the price varies with each person. I said no that's not right. So I asked for a refund and told her I would just continue to order from the restaurants we usually go to. I get friendly service and great food at those places but I am always up to giving places a try. Not this place again. It's also not like they were in a rush either because the place was dead. One girl was in a booth on her phone scrolling, maybe she was on break idk but no acknowledgement from her. Then one finally came up about 5 mins later. No hello or nothing. I said I have a pick up order and that's when she proceeded to tell me the price and about how it's different prices for different people. 👎 A good attitude goes both ways. Customer service is definitely not where they need to...
Read moreMariachis is a local favorite - we used to live in Blossomwood and regularly hung out with friends and neighbors. About 2 years ago there was an ownership / management change and things really went downhill. Some entrees were changed, some downsized, walls painted, and they removed the tiny bar and replaced it with an unattractive wait station. With a distinct exception of management, the staff is generally friendly and prompt. The food quality is average, the chips over cooked and salsa is inconsistent, ranging from tasteless and runny to extra hot with large lumps of tomatoes. We have tried almost everything on the menu, most things two or more times. We used to order the Pollo Gratinado, but since the change-over its been downsized and seasoned differently. The steak in the carne tacos is most times over cooked and crunchy. Years ago Camarones Diabla was not on the menu but depending on the chef they would make it for me. Extra hot (I think the cook felt I challenged him) and not very tasty, but fun to try. Recently tho, with the decline in quality and attitude of management, I dont think I'll try it again. We still drop by occasionally, but it appears its not near as popular as it used to be. Its a shame, too, because while it was a solidly average Mexican restaurant, it was a fun place...
