I ordered carryout from here last Friday. Well, more accurately, I ordered carryout from the Hoover location but MEANT to order carryout from this location, lol. Once we figured out my error, I asked if they could make my order here in less than 20 minutes (lunch hour crunch) and they said they could, so I placed my second, actually correct order for southwest egg rolls. To TCP's credit, they got my order out to me in well under the 20 minutes I requested.
Located in the Providence area, this Casual Pint is a little hard to see thanks to some construction that's ongoing. As I often find to be the case with Providence restaurants, parking is also a bit of a challenge. I was lucky this time and managed to slide into a spot almost in front of the restaurant. It helps if you're adept at parallel parking (I am not).
Like I said earlier, had to reorder my lunch here after mistakenly ordering it from the wrong location over the phone. They were doing a decent lunch business but I was able to find a spot to sit and wait while they prepared my food. It has a comfortable, slightly-brighter-than-standard pub vibe. The bar is very large and there certainly does appear to be a huge array of beers on tap. There's also a cooling fridge/area where you can grab yet more beer. If beer's your thing -- I imagine this place would punch the ticket.
The staff were helpful and on top of everything. Someone came by while I was waiting to see if I needed anything, which was a sweet touch. I was impressed at how quickly they were able to make my order and get it out to me. It was boxed nicely.
What I wasn't that impressed with was the food, sadly. The southwest egg rolls...hm. I think a good egg roll has a very crispy, flaky wrapper. These did not. The wrapper was super bready. Honestly, the texture of it reminded me very much of a Hot Pocket. Chewy, a little soggy, very thick. The inside was pretty good, but I haven't really met a black bean/corn/cheese mixture I didn't like. The chicken pieces had a slightly odd texture, but they tasted okay. The wrapper just wasn't right, though, and that's kinda the most important part. On the bright side, the boom boom sauce was legitimately mild/moderately spicy, and I genuinely enjoyed it.
The Coke I ordered came in a can. I learned they can't / don't do carryout sweet teas because they don't have a to-go container to put them in. That was kind of a bummer, too.
Overall, this looks to be a great spot for any beer aficionado. The staff is pleasant, prompt, and helpful. While I didn't have great luck with my food this time, they do have a moderately large menu with a lot of yummy-sounding bar type food, so I'd consider returning to try...
Read moreNot impressed, beer and food was a little too pricey, food was bland and the service stunk.
They have about 30 rotating beers on tap, but unfortunately nothing that exotic or that I really haven’t had somewhere else before. It’s kind of like Stem and Stein on County Line if you have ever been there but with worse food, service but it’s a Providence so you can walk around and do other things before or after. Our server was not very good, one member of our group waited over 30 minutes after they order a beer because our serve was talking to a couple at a table they knew. Overall, the service to get another round was just really slow and they weren’t that busy as it was 5:30pm on a Saturday. I ordered a brat and for $9 it was overpriced and tasted like a cheap Johnsonville product with that weird sweet taste all Johnsonville products have. I lived in Milwaukee, WI for 4 years and that may be the brat capital of the country so I may just be spoiled with awesome homemade all natural brats at pretty much every restaurant in the city with some places following some crazy old recipes. There was really no flavor to the brat and it had a few onions and peppers on it with some watery beer cheese – nothing fancy or great. Also ordered their Sidewinders as a side with the brat which are pretty much just just thick cut wedge spiral fries. They were pretty bland and soggy, mine didn’t even taste like they had any salt on them. Got an order of their beer cheese to drip the Sidewinders. They say the beer cheese is made fresh in house every day, but again this was fairly bland too.
Overall, I won’t plan on going back again unless I’m with a group that wants to go. You’re better off going to Stem and Stein for better food and better service and more reasonable prices. Plus when this place first opened they pretty much had the exact same tap list and Stem and Stein; I waited to check them out until they had a few different beers. Wish they had the beer prices on the tap list and that you could get smaller sizes of beers if you wanted a 5oz...
Read moreWent to the Casual Pint in the village of Providence (part of Huntsville) while on a business trip. I visit these kinds of places to try local beers and to relax. Nice location, easy to find, close to hotels. Place was clean and only a couple of customers. There were a good selection of beers and were varied as to type. That’s about as far as the good parts. Bartender had the absolute worst attitude for this type of place. Was very short with the customers there and knew little to nothing about beer other than to say I don’t like these types of beers. No real interaction, it was throw your beers down and not much else which is okay for a place that throws bud light at you for 2 bucks. The next point, for a flight of local beers, (4) 5 ounce pours was $16 ...sorry that was my mistake to assume it would be reasonably priced. I have never in any city, be it DC, Abu Dhabi, Heidelberg, Stockholm, anyplace, spent that on a flight of beers. Had a customer come in while I was sitting there and mentioned that for 2 growlers of beer and a refill he was charged over $90 dollars. Basically more than $22.50 for a growler of beer. The bartender said “some beers are expensive”. The customer was quite upset and understandably said he would not be returning. Placed his growlers on the bar and told the bartender to keep them and walked out. Great thought and location but will be mostly a one trip visit for most. Poor service and overpriced isn’t a long term successful business model. I don’t see me being a...
