What a fantastic gourmet addition to Hutto! Breakfast joints are scarce around these parts and anything resembling gourmet usually refers to popcorn in large tins around the holidays. So color me more than pleasantly surprised when I was introduced to this delectable gem of a cafe! From the fun, contemporary, and warm decor to the plethora of equally delectable menu items ranging from teas, coffees, sandwiches, baked goods (which of course include a menagerie of scone options) and my vice: the Sconewich, this place delivers the goods!
First and foremost, the service was great; everybody who worked there was exceptionally welcoming and nice! Secondly, the coffee was B'OMG good! I had the Kona French Press (yes, I said French Press...outside Austin proper...and it was used correctly!) which was exquisite and this coffee addict's dream come true! If I could get it in IV form, I would happily go into a Coffee Coma! Until then, I will gladly settle for the adorable little single serve press the Kona is served in and Justin's "the Caffeinator" mad crazy java skills.
Now on to the Sconewiches...seriously, these things should be illegal in the other 49 states (they just couldn't handle it!)...so imagine: a perfectly fried egg with perfectly melted cheesy goodness encased in a warm scone hug (stay with me) of either maple sausage, bacon cheddar chive, or some 3rd choice (ok, confession, my brain stopped processing information after bacon cheddar chive, but after a quick reboot and drool removal, I found out the 3rd option is actually jalapeño cheddar). Now imagine that...happening in your mouth! Exactly. And, you're welcome.
Needless to say, I have been coming back for food/coffeegasms, with a drool guard, for almost 9 mos now.
I even came up w/a slogan for this place: "If you want to be dazed and confused, stay in Austin. To get Baked n Sconed, you gotta go to Hutto"
Again,...

Tried a turkey and prosciutto panini croissandwich™ which was fantastic. Not just the ingredients, but the croissant! It was unbelievably flaky and not sweet, a perfect pair. The chicken Caesar salad was standard and perfectly dressed. Extra parmesan grated on top would be a welcome addition.
Pricing was steep, however. A bit over $30 for a two course for two and not a baked potato or steak in sight. If you lower the prices for your entrees, I promise to tip. Speaking of, no tip line on credit card transactions? What's up with that?
Second course was a nutella turnover which I only disliked because of the nutella -- chocolate and buttery flakiness don't match well in my view despite the sprinkling of coarse sugar on top. Seems a sweeter dough is needed for something like that. I suspect I'd love an apple one.
Not one for coffee, but I overheard other customers talk about how much they like it. Italian sodas are great because they can be flavored with any syrup in the house. They also have a buy 9 and get 10th beverage free promotion at the moment.
I'm eager to try more of Ms. Anders' baked goods as they are obviously her specialty and she executes them flawlessly in so far as I can tell. To close, Barista Melanie is pure awesome-sauce. She already knows, but having her Chef-boss tell her may mean more than coming from a mere acquaintance (rather, I might be...
Read moreThis was my and my wife's favorite breakfast spot but ever since we got a new job we haven't had a reason to drive through hutto anymore. I decide I would drive the 40min here to surprise my wife and some family members with breakfast from a place we have praised to the family over and over again and I'm honestly disappointed. It's partially my fault since I didn't double check the order as leaving but I never had any issues in the past so I didn't think to do so. I ordered 4 maple sausage scone wiches this morning and instead I got 4 croissant sandwiches. I also order 10 chocolate chip scones, 10 snicker doodle, and 5 of the berry, the pecan and almond scones and only received 8 of the chocolate chip and 8 of the snicker doodle. I'm already an hour away and I hate having to surprise my wife with a regular croissant instead of one of her favorite her breakfast items but that's all I can do now. Scones are still delicious like always but im still disappointed in what I received and how such a mix up...
