Upon arrival we went in through designated door which was right where people were seated eating. We walked through the restaurant to the front and advised someone that we would like to dine in. We came for breakfast originally. We had a 20 minute wait for a table. We asked if they had something like mimosas for drinks and we were then advised it was BYOB. We were like ok that's cool so we went next door to liquor store and purchased some drinks we returned and my Mom had been seated already. It was very cold with the door opening repeatedly so we asked to switch seats. They accommodated us with a booth. We were seated prior to 2pm. Since it was our first time there we were given breakfast/brunch & lunch/dinner menus. We made our decisions on food which was breakfast only to be advised as we were placing our order at 2:06 that breakfast was over at 2pm which was totally disappointing. After coming up with second choices for meals. I chose the catfish with candied yams and Mac and cheese for my sides. My mom had fried chicken with candied yams and green beans and my girlfriend had salmon croquettes with greens and dressing. We got our food along with cornbread muffins and an order of biscuits. The catfish was ok better with hot sauce and it was only 1 piece. Mac and cheese had no seasoning at all and was missing cheese very dry. The yams were decent. The fried chicken was very good. The green beans needed something they were missing flavor definitely like they were canned. The cornbread muffins were horrible the driest hardest cold muffins ever we asked for hot ones. We got warm ones and added butter to them and they still were brittle breaking and dry. Biscuits were very dry also homemade maybe, dry definitely. The dressing was pretty good. Salmon croquettes were good as well. Tried the peach cobbler and fresh squeezed lemonade as well. Cobbler was great lemonade was alright high charge for such a small cup. We got our bill and we noticed we were charged $10 for BYOB. We questioned the charge and asked if there was any signage or anything on the menu stating there is a charge? We were told it was not and we informed them that they cannot charge us for something we do not know about they should've informed us of that the moment they told us it was BYOB and requested the charge to be removed. It was removed. Overall the experience wasn't what I expected, but I would like to actually have breakfast and see if the food will be better. I would give it...
Read moreSo I decided to visit this restaurant because I wanted some chicken and waffles, but once I got there I was told they only sell that during breakfast, which is fine. So I proceed to order I ordered chicken, greens, and Mac&cheese, and I wanted a sweet tea because I'm a firm believer that you can't have soul food without sweet tea🤷🏽♀️ but the waitress said they were out, so I said ok. My food arrives, the chicken was good and crispy with good flavor, but the Greens tastes like they came out a can like the Glory Greens in a can. The Mac&cheese taste like it came out of a box, but with some hot sauce and pepper it was all good to eat. Then the waitress brought over some corn bread muffins that was really hard. I tried to put butter on it, but that didn't help at all🤷🏽♀️ The place is newly remodeled, and it looks really nice, but I couldn't help but think that this place only really caters to people they know. I say that to say this, so back to the sweet tea part, the waitress told me they didn't have anymore, like they ran out or something. So this lady, and her husband come in I believe they probably was a pastor, and first lady. I noticed when they came in they were greeted in a very welcoming way. So I hear them ordering their food, and drinks. My guest that was with me noticed the waitress bring them Sweet Tea🙄 so she ask her like ma'am is that sweet tea she say yes🤔 I say I thought y'all were out. She say she thought they was too, but I guess they saved some for the guest that arrived, and we couldn't get non until they got theirs.. I'm like really!! ( she didn't say that, but I definitely can read in between the lines). Long story short!! If you not from some type of church, or known family member, you shouldn't go here because you will not get the service you deserve. They will treat you like you just a regular person not a real customer..I just wish I could have got the same treatment that the guest did that came after me..Not to mention they locked the door while we was in there, and didn't have to courteously to unlock once we were leaving. All we hear is you gotta twist the lock🤷🏽♀️ ok..I get your closing, but there gotta be a better system. I mean just because this place is on 79th doesn't mean you have to live up to the stereotype. You try to support your fellow black businesses, but they don't support their own. Very disappointed, and wanted this...

The restaurant has their account set up wrong and even though I called I still had issues with my order. I’m so bummed to only leave a 3 Star review becuase I supported black owned businesses fiercely, but today was a headache.
My friend is visiting from out of town and wanted some Chicago soul food. When Captain Hard Time popped up on my Uber Eats options I got excited because I remember family and school gatherings there and the food was good. I googled the restaurant to look at reviews and Josephine’s came up. I called and asked if it was the same restaurant and was told yes, then I asked about the wings. As my pic shows, it is a different charge for light or dark meat and my friend wanted wings but we both didn’t understand what the meat selection was about. The woman that answered the phone said it was a mistake and just order the non extra fee one. So also as you can see from the pic the sides are $6.50 so we assumed the wings came withe fries and anything extra you had to pay for. We ordered greens and Mac n cheese. The meal came and we were shocked at the portion sizes for the cost so we figuered there must be a mistake. I called the restaurant and they said you get 2 sides free. I told them it doesn’t say that on Uber eats and I was charged $6.50 for each. I was advised to call Uber eats and after a 10 min call they issued a refund since I paid for free sides.
Tip: you get 2 free sides so put that in the notes section! If you pay for it they will NOT send extra portions to add on to the free side. You will only get the free sides and not the sides you paid for.
So I only gave it 3 stars becuase the Mac n cheese tasted like Kraft Mac n cheese with extra butter added and the greens tastes like canned Glory brand greens. My friend said the wings were good though so that raised the raiting to 3 stars.
I’m really bummed to leave this review and I hope they fix their presence in the delivery apps so people don’t have to jump through hoops and loops to...
