This no frills down home spot has good soul food with a mix of Southern, Cajun, Texan and Northern comfort food. The ribs were a northern grill with light smoke which seemed to be more of a direct heat cook while the brisket was Texas smoked with an indirect heat cook. Both were seasoned well with the right pull and bite. Neither were sauced. The thin flavorful sauce served on the side adds a level of deliciousness. Two thumbs up. The greens were a southern sweet style which transforms to sweet heat when you add the house made pepper sauce. The Mac and cheese tastes like the traditional southern comfort food made with cheddar from your grandma’s kitchen. Lloyd, the personable owner, gave us a sample of the gumbo which was Cajun style with the rice cooked in the rich dark roux. There’s meat in it but don’t expect big chunks. And, of course, the meal would not be complete without the sweet cornbread muffins that taste like my favorite Jiffy mix made with love. They could have been made from scratch but either way they were hot and yummy! We didn’t try any homemade desserts because we were too full. We enjoyed the food and the history lesson Lloyd shared with us. Looking forward to another visit with Lloyd and Loretta to try the chicken, pulled pork and other sides. It’s a must do if you are in the area

Grandpa’s is a a charming and humble restaurant with some of the very best barbecue you can find west of the Mississippi. The service is excellent, and you will be made to feel right at home, as if you were in your own Nana’s kitchen. The portions are generous and the food is obviously made with love and care that comes from the heart. I have had the catfish (served only on Fridays and made to order) in the past and it is divine! This night, I had the pulled pork (tender, juicy, and smoky) while my friend had the brisket (smoky, tender, and so full of flavor). You will be hard pressed to decide which of the many sides to have! All of them are amazing! Sometimes we get extra sides because we just can’t choose. Particular favorites of mine are the macaroni and cheese, potato salad, green beans, and the rice and beans. Everything is homemade from scratch and with care. Eating the pecan pie nearly made me cry as it reminded me of my own grandma’s and I hadn’t had it since she passed away. Food is kind of magical and it can transport you to a different time and place. And eating at Grandpa’s can do that, you will feel the warmth and love that you did (or should have felt) as a child. So pull up a chair, relax, and enjoy!

I had the pleasure of dining at Grandpa's Southern BBQ while vacationing in Idaho Falls, and I can confidently say this place is a hidden gem! I arrived right at opening on a Saturday, and the first thing I noticed was how clean and welcoming the restaurant was. The staff greeted me immediately, setting a friendly tone for my visit. I opted for the two meat deal with brisket and baby back ribs, along with sides of mashed potatoes and beans. I was informed there would be a wait for the ribs, but that didn’t bother me at all. The host and I struck up a fantastic conversation that had us both laughing—definitely a highlight of my visit! When my meal finally arrived, I dove into the brisket first, and wow! It was bursting with flavor and left me craving more. The baby back ribs were equally delicious. But let’s talk about those sides: the mashed potatoes had an unexpected spice that turned them into a standout dish, and the beans offered a lovely sweet flavor. Together, they created an unbeatable combination! Overall, Grandpa's Southern BBQ is a must-visit if you’re in Idaho Falls. The brisket alone is worth the trip! A true honey hole in this charming little town. I can't recommend it enough!

A Taste of Home and Family at Grandpa's Southern BBQ

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Grandpa's Southern BBQ, and I must say, it was an extraordinary experience that left me with nothing but praise for this hidden gem.

First and foremost, let's talk about the food. Grandpa's Southern BBQ serves up dishes that are nothing short of perfect, taking you on a delightful journey through the heart of Southern home cooking. Every bite brought back cherished memories of family gatherings and hearty meals made with love. From the tender and smoky barbecue to the mouthwatering sides, this place captures the essence of comfort food like no other. The flavors are rich, the portions are generous, and it's all served with that genuine Southern hospitality that makes every bite even more satisfying.

Now, let's talk about the staff. The team at Grandpa's Southern BBQ goes above and beyond to make you feel not like a customer, but like family. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with warm smiles and friendly conversations that instantly put you at ease. Their attentiveness and willingness to accommodate your needs are truly commendable. It's rare to find a place where the staff's genuine friendliness adds so much to the overall dining experience.

Another notable aspect is the cash discount offered. In a world where banks seem to charge both parties for every card transaction, it's refreshing to see a business that values its customers' wallets. This cash discount is a thoughtful gesture that shows Grandpa's Southern BBQ cares about its patrons and is willing to go the extra mile to make dining there even more enjoyable.

In summary, Grandpa's Southern BBQ is a culinary treasure. The food is a tantalizing trip down memory lane to the best home-cooked meals, the staff treats you like long-lost family, and the cash discount is a welcome bonus. If you're in the mood for some exceptional Southern comfort food and a dining experience that warms your heart, Grandpa's is the place to be. Don't miss out on this remarkable establishment; it's an...

After reading some of the reviews that were left quite some time ago I usually go to the critical reviews to find out if a restaurant is worth trying. I'm glad I did not go based on the reviews I am actually from the south I recently moved here three months ago I have been craving southern BBQ for some time I was very skeptical when I walked in the doors looked very diner-like but me and my wife gave it a try. The server was very friendly and provided us with exceptional service while we were waiting for our order after being placed the owner came by and spoke with us he took his time to listen and he took his time to respond correctly this is by far the most friendly and home like resteraunt. After receiving our food we took our time reviewing it looking at it it was absolutely beautiful the first bite brought me back to a nostalgic moment the ribs were absolutely delicious they were tender fall off the bone the sauce was absolutely to die for I read one of the views where somebody was very critical about the ribs I don't know what it was like two years ago when this review was left but I speak out to them you should try it again give it another try it's totally worth it the mac and cheese was juicy and cheesy tender just right the collard greens felt like they just came from memaws kitchen the brisket was tender and juicy everything was to my expectations I have worked in the restaurant industry for over a decade I gave him a little insight of how critical I can be and believe me I don't leave a good review to anywhere usually never I am like the critic from Ratatouille I'm like a Gordon Ramsay but I must say that this place really hit the spot worth going worth trying...

We had the opportunity to go to lunch at Grandpa's Southren bbq yesterday 4-22-23. This is definitely the best bbq in the state of Idaho. Ribs and brisket tender and smoke flavored to perfection. Baby backs and a fantastic bbq sauce you add yourself oh, oh, my. Pulled pork sandwich my grandsone ate, Every side dish was shared between our group as "You just have to try this". Mac and cheese, vinaigrette coleslaw, potato salad, mashed potatoes were excellent. Then Pech cobbler, butter milk pie, pecan pie, we're to die for. We ordered 2 extra slices of Pecan pie, a whole buttermilk pie, and a dozen of the corn muffins to take with us. A back story on the Pecan pie, 21 years ago when Grandpa's southern bbq was in Arco Idaho we ate at this restaurant and Lloyd came and sat at our table and we had a wonderful meal and company. I ordered the Pican pie. My wife did not like Pecan pie. I took one bite and said,: I know you don't like Pecan pie but you have to try this". She took a bite and ordered a piece for herself. Loretta makes a perfect Pican pie and they are the most gracious hosts. They are not as fast as a McDonald's but the wait is worth every savory bite. My personal opinion is its the best bbq I have ever had and I highly recommend Grandpa's Southren bbq in Idaho Falls even if it's out of your way. God Bless Lloyd and Loretta and Grandpa's...
