I was really excited to check out this place and I can honestly say I have never been treated nor experienced anything like this before in a restaurant. When I first arrived there was a small line and the cashier (she had a buzzed haircut on the sides and had a round tattoo on her back) was really nice to everyone in the line. She was really helpful to everyone in front of me and it made the line go slower than usual. I didn't mind as she was really friendly. Well...that attitude changed completely when I came up to order. She gave me the dirtiest look, looking at me up and down and in a completely different tone she said "I'm assuming you're door dash". I looked at her shocked and said "No, I am not." First of all, what's wrong with being door dash? I explained to her that it was my first time here and she took my order down.
I am not sure if this restaurant is aware of how their employee comes off. I was the only latino male in the restaurant. The people whom she was really nice to were white couples. I had to wait almost 50 minutes for my food. In the time I waited, everyone who ordered got their order, ate and LEFT. During my wait, a white door dash male came in and she was the NICEST PERSON TO HIM. So..the problem wasn't that she thought I was door dash? A group came in about 30 minutes after we came in ordered and got their food within about 10 minutes...three white girls, of course she was super nice to them...She never came by and stating "I'm so sorry for the wait, nothing". Also, if you were so extemely detailed and helpful with everyone else, why not mention the wait time while I was ordering? After almost 50 minutes, I asked how much longer and why everyone else received their food. She just simply said that our chicken took longer because the chicken was different..hmmm..well I ordered the most popular dish, which she recommended. The group that came in after us ordered a much larger order and not only was she pleasant towards them, they got their food within a reasonably timeframe. Almost 50 minutes is not reasonable, AT ALL.
I do want to point out that I understand restaurants get really busy and that's why I waited so long. But 10 minutes after sitting down, the placed died down. So It wasn't even because it was so packed and the line was out the door. But even when door dash came in or some phone orders, she just sat there and made small talk with them. So why was my case different from them? She was also really nice to my asian friend and my light skin wife. But when she would turn to me, her face would completely change and her tone. I even asked my wife "am I imagining this?" and she said "no, I see it too". Everyone at the table felt it and saw it. Not the night I was looking forward to.
I want to give the benefit of the doubt, but it was she was HORRIBLE to me. The attitude was so bad that I just sat there trying to figure out her issue with me the whole time. That is why I said perspective is so important. If everyone that is coming in is being treated extremely well, and every time she spoke to the only male latino in the restaurant she treats them like trash, what are you telling that person? Well...unfortunately, the chicken wasn't even prepared correctly. It was our first outing as a family in a while and I didn't want to ruin the night. Unfortunately, we just had to leave the food and leave. Almost $70 for horrible service, left feeling yucky bc of how I was treated and how she conducted herself, long wait time and then bad food.
I tried reaching out to the manager but couldn't get a hold of them. I would be willing to speak with them. I wanted to speak with them before posting this but they don't pick up the phone. I am not driving 30 minutes just to...
Read moreI failed again. If you are familiar with my reviews, when I review a food place, chances are I won't have photos of the food. What can I say? I get home. I'm ravenous (okay, just hungry) and I want to tear into the bag of overwhelming aroma. I did get photos of the place while waiting for my order (cooked to order) and got to know the owner, Ryeongmin Han.
The place is right on Broadway with parking next door at The Broadway Bar. It's an intimate little place that leads to right to the back area counter and big electronic menu sign up above. 'chimaek' translates to chicken-beer and it's like the Korean version of American 'I got the munchies, game's on - let's eat pizza and beer. Ryeongmin said it's the bomb with beer (my lingo, but you get the drift). Asked which beer and he said a lager tastes better with it than a IPA. I'm not a beer drinker, but if it's part of a meal experience well pour me an ice cold mug dude.
Won't go into the different flavors (you can see the menu photo), but basically you go here for ono chicken - not spicy version to spicy. There are limited sides, because again it's all about the chicken. He offers various beers on tap and pop. I ordered a whole soy (not spicy) chicken, whole yangumyum (spicy) and yangumyum wings. Didn't order side of rice - and glad I didn't - the chicken is really filling. By the way, the rice is more like sticky Japanese rice, not the drier, long Chinese rice. It does come with a side of pickled daikon (radish).
It was so good. Dive in with your fingers, it's messy, he has wet wipes. Go for it. There I am trying to get a piece of chicken and daikon in my mouth and then beer. Yup, you gotta try it with beer. You won't regret it.
It takes about 20-25 minutes to prepare an order,...
