Buddy's Pizza — Restaurant in Independence Charter Township

Decided to give the new location a try after seeing a flyer in the mail. I ordered on a Wednesday night and it was complete chaos trying to get the pizza. Buddy’s is a namesake in the Detroit area so they have to know they’re going to be very busy with orders and I would’ve thought they’d have a system and resources in place expecting to be extremely popular and busy. When I got there the staff were completely overwhelmed with no direction or system. The customers were taking it upon themselves to organize the line and systemize the lobby. When I ordered they said it’d be an hour, which was fine with me. I got there 45 mins after ordering, waited in line about 20 mins to get to a register, and when I checked the pizza in the car it looked like it had been sitting for the past hour. I’ll just say that I’ll probably get it again but I’m going to wait until the initial hype dies down. But overall not impressed with the management of this place. Zero system or process in place up handle the demand. Just overwhelmed staff kinda running around but not accomplishing a lot. Not their fault…lack...

They're new and probably working out the kinks. It wasn't typical Buddy's quality. Rather, it was burnt and didn't have enough sauce. I'll give them another shot and tell them about my previous experience as I'm not alone in getting a lightly torched/black on the bottom pizza.

Update based upon 5/8/22 visit. Much better the second time around. To be fair I ordered the same pizza. No more burnt crust. I'll go again and again. They were beyond slammed for Mother's Day, but my order was ready by the time promised.

My advice to the powers that be is to allow the use of gift cards to pay for online orders. I had to drive to the store to place my order. The place was so busy that they couldn't answer their phones, even after being on hold for ten minutes, then another ten when I called back on my drive there. Having the ability to pay online with my gift card would have remedied that problem.

Way, way, way better pizza and kudos to the workers there for...

I had such high hopes (since we love the original sit-down Buddy's) - but every experience with this location has been a total letdown.

The first time we ordered, the pizza was burnt...and by burnt I mean the crust was BLACK. We also ordered cheese bread (although I'm not really sure you could call it that because it only had cheese on the very tip of the breadstick - who knows, maybe this is something trendy they're trying). Having worked a pizza place job in high school I know mozzarella is one of the most expensive ingredients (and inflation doesn't help), but my gosh...

I was about to give them a second try but had a hard time figuring out how to place a half-and-half order on their website and eventually ended up calling to place the order. Didn't have much success with that either as I was still waiting on hold at 12 minutes in before I got hung up on. Needless to say I took my business elsewhere and likely won't try ordering...
