Corner Cafe Independence — Restaurant in Independence

If I could give zero stars I would have. My fiance and I went to the Independence Corner Cafe and it was absolutely awful, First of all the online menu prices were way cheaper than in the restaurant then Our waitress made it look like she was busy but she really only had 3 or 4 tables and we waited forever for our drinks and food. I had the chicken noodle dinner which is described as made with homemade noodles and it clearly was cheap store bought thin nasty noodles with hardly no chicken in it plus it was watery like bland soup it was gross and all the food was cold the steamed vegetables were still hard had no butter on them they were disgusting and the dinner rolls were not done at all still super doughy. My fiance had the chicken fried chicken which he said was cold and hard to cut in the middle and the veggie of the day was collard greens but when the waitress brought our meals she informed my fiance they were out of collard greens so he got steamed vegetables but by the time she brought them out 20 min later we had had enough of the bad service and horrible food so we asked for the check which took another ten min. Then we took the check to the front register where we waited another ten min before a young girl asked if we had been helped we said no and tried to pay the bill and the girl said oh you. Can't pay here you have to pay through your waitress and she refused our payment sent us back to our table where we waited another 20 min to pay through our slow waitress. And the young girl who wouldn't take our payment was still standing at the register doing absolutely nothing at all but standing around looking as worthless as the entire place seems to be. I have never in my entire life seen and experienced such poor service and absolutely disgusting food. We will never go there again. I am just totally confused as to why the place was busy unless that many people just don't care if their food is good or don't expect good service. Worst place in all of the United States there are definitely way better places to dine out in Kansas City. Avoid this place like the plague if you're wanting good food and good service you won't find it here...

This review applies to the bakery. The pies are kind of hit or miss, ex., I picked up a coconut cream pie to take home, kept it cool on the way...they might as well have put it in a bowl. The pie, even after 4 hours of refrigeration, when tipped, was running over the edge of the bowl, topping and all! We have bought pies that where extremely good and well put together and others that were not completely done with doughy crust. I will say that the Bread Pudding we have purchased for special occasions has been the best ever, which is why the 4 stars for food. It is always somewhat chaotic at the Independence location. It seems the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. I was there just this past Saturday; I followed an older couple in, them and myself went straight to the bakery, no other customers there at the time. There were 4 or 5 workers behind the bakery case, doing nothing except talking while we waited and no one ever asked if they could help. I stepped up to the counter since I had a pickup order and was waited on immediately. However, when I left the older couple was still standing at the case and no one had ever asked if they could help them...they did finally step over to the counter as I was leaving. I saw no excuse for this lack of service when there was a minimal number of customers... I have been in there on other occasions to pick up my pre-order when they are packed and twice my order was sold to other customers prior to my pick up time. The last time, while they were searching for a Coconut Cream Pie to go with the rest of my order, one of the workers asked the person behind us what they could get for him and he said a Coconut Cream Pie, someone hollered there was one left, at which time I had to speak up and say it was mine, since they couldn't find mine and words between myself and the other customer ensued. Someone then apologized and said they accidentally sold the pie that was with my order and apologized to the other customer also, as they were now out of the pie he requested. All of this, while there were at least 20 other customers crowding in to place or pick...

I've ate here numerous times and the service is always very good and friendly. Also never any problems with the food. But today I ordered on line for a curbside pick up. I ordered my meal around 4:20 pm and picked a 5pm pick up time. The email confirmation tells you to park in the curbside identified area and call when you arrive. I arrived at 4:57 and called like requested. Also I told them I was out the door and to their left. It asked me online my car make and color already. The only reason I had to park away from the door is they have 1 spot designated for curbside pick up. One!! God forbid if you have more then one person coming at the same time. At 15 after 5 the car that was in that space pulled away so I pulled up into it. A woman did come out with another order and told me the last name and i told her no not me. On her way back in she asked my name and said she'd check on it. Never saw her again. At 5:25 I called again to let them know I'm still out front waiting for my 5pm curbside pick up. About 5-10 minutes later someone comes out and apologizes for the wait. I gave her the tip I was planning on giving to begin with in cash. It's not her fault for the wait. I don't know if they didn't fix it or thought maybe it was an in-house order and it sat under the heat lamps or they made it on the fly when i called the second time. But it was a 10 minute drive home and my food was still very warm and it didn't taste bad at all. I also ordered a slice of banana cream pie. But when I took it out of the fridge later that night, I noticed no bananas and after the first bite realized it was coconut cream. I can eat that, don't hate it. But when your expecting one thing and you get something else it's a letdown. I'll continue to eat there, but this may have changed the way I feel about ordering it online and...
