Black Bear Diner is a great addition to the Independence and Blue Springs are. The areas as become stagnant with the same old food for a decade now and the recent development near Menards has brought some much needed changes to the area.
The parking lot is shared with a great deal of restaurants, Menards has overflow parking that can be used, so you should have no issues finding a parking space even if you need to walk a little. Black Bear Diner does a very good job creating the feel of a lodge or cabin diner with the decor and large "wood" beams everywhere. When you first walk in there is a decent waiting area near the checkout counter. I would venture to say that 20 guests could be out of the weather and waiting inside to be seated. Many reviews right now are complaining about how long it took to be seated, but the restaurant is new so if you expect to wait about 30 minutes or less you will not be disappointed. The area where the tables are located is massive, easily one of the largest seating areas next to Golden Corral (one of the areas bigger restaurants).
The staff was quick to respond to us being seated as well as explaining the overly large menu and the restaurant itself. I personally am not a fan of massive menus as I feel getting a few things perfect would be better than a hundred things mediocre, but I will say there is likely something for everyone. My family of five ordered and were served food within 20 minutes of being seated and I fell that this is the perfect amount of time. The food left a little to be desired for, but the restaurant is not trying to be anything it is not. This is a diner and the food is diner food so again they have portrayed exactly what they should. My kids were amazed that you could have breakfast all day long so that will likely be a hit as there are only a few establishments that offer that.
Sadly what I thought they would get the most right was the dessert as most diner have homemade pies and desserts. Between the five of us we had a total of three different desserts and this was in our eyes the worst part of the meal.
Overall this is a great addition to the area and we do plan to come back, we just need to be in that...
Read moreThe first time my family & I ever went to a Black Bear Diner restaurant was back in April 2021, and we went to the location in Independence, Missouri and also the Black Bear Diner location in St. Charles, Missouri too. The concept of Black Bear Diner is homestyle-cooked and old-fashioned comfort foods served in a country & rural themed restaurant with "over-the-top bear paraphernalia." Customers will see murals and artwork with nature and bears that are created for every single Black Bear Diner restaurant across the United States of America. Customers will also see a bakery counter with freshly baked pies, shelves with restaurant apparel that is related to and resembles the Black Bear, and a jukebox like any other diner. Black Bear Diner has a lunch counter with bear-shaped chairs because most diner businesses have lunch counters with diner stools.
The menu at Black Bear Diner has a wide variety of breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Since the word “diner” is in the restaurant chain’s name, Black Bear Diner offers family meals such as breakfast, burgers, salads, and ice cream milkshakes. Breakfast at Black Bear Diner is served ALL DAY no matter what time of day it is at their restaurants. When me and my dad first went to Black Bear Diner in Independence, Missouri, we both had the BIGFOOT Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs breakfast platter and by the time me and my father had our bellies stuffed, we asked for takeout containers because we were not able to finish our meals inside the restaurant. However, we did finish some of our meals when we returned home but it was later in the day. Me and my father were satisfied with our food, and we were also impressed with Black Bear Diner’s service.
If customers are looking for a homestyle family restaurant with its interior decorated with country and rural area themed vibes, I would recommend Black Bear Diner for its satisfying and generous portions for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even dessert. I would also say that Black Bear Diner is likely to make its customers feel like they are almost somewhere in the...
Read moreIt was my first time here.. I'm really disappointed.
Our server was great. Something must have happened in the kitchen. the kitchen was overwhelmed? Miscommunication, perhaps? We were seated within in appropriate timeframe considering how busy it was.
But watching more than a couple of groups of people that got seated after my father and i... got their food before ours. That was kind of embarrassing In my opinion. even one group that was seated 20 mins after we sat down not only ate their food.. left before we even got ours..
Once we did get our food.. the main dish wasn't even Luke warm.. my father's ham was cold.. the hash browns were warm. The cheese not even melted. The hottest thing on our meal was the side of bacon...
The manager did come over on his own. Apologized on behalf of the kitchen.. although a bit frustrated.. I stated my concerns and thoughts. He did take one of the meals off.. he was really good at handing my situation.
But what the main issue was. Even if the order was maybe forgotten.. made wrong.. whatever the excuse was.. the food arrived to us cold.. even if it was made late.. i would at least expect it to come hot...
We did eat the food. It had flavor. No point of wasting food. That and waiting another possible 48 mins to remake the food. Our experience at the diner was really sub-par..
It had to been a fluke. Some kind of miscommunication.. Honest mistake. Maybe the menu order got cleared. Or the waitress wasn't notified.. I'm really not sure. I hope the next time I come in. It will be a much better...
