I've been coming to this location for 6 years, initially on lunch break with corporate coworkers and now with my husband and children. July 21st 2023 was the worst service and food I had ever received.

During my visit, my server did not tell me his name. He did not greet me. He did not make eye contact with either of the two of us while ordering.

My husband was served expired imitation crab in his seafood entrée, which was either an enchilada or burrito. He stopped eating it shortly after pulling the imitation crab from the tortilla, of which I took a bite (to see if it was just a flavor issue).

It was NOT, the fish was very obviously bad and both smelled and looked so. We loved this restaurant, so we did not complain and instead did not finish the dish, paid our tab, tipped, and went about our evening disappointed and unsatisfied.

The next day, my husband who had only eaten lightly the previous day began exhibiting signs of food poisoning - vomiting and diarrhea.

I called at 12pm on 07/22/2023 to explain they were serving expired fish. The male staff who answered the phone was dismissive of me and told me to "call back Monday" in the middle of explaining they were serving seafood that was making individuals sick. He did not take my name, my number, or even address the issue at hand.

This is discouraging, and alarming considering other patrons eating seafood dishes could also become dangerously ill.

I will not be returning to this restaurant, which was my go-to the last half-decade, for several months and will be reaching out to the health inspector of Independence to document this occurrence.

BE SAFE! SPEAK UP! It's not...

This is a dramatic love story with this restaurant

One day me and my partner and I were looking for OUR mexican place. We found it, and oh my god, their tacos and cheese dip. This is heaven. At last, i was stuffed and rolled out like the girl who ate bubblegum at the Willy wonka factory. Then the most disturbing thing happened...i forgot where it was and the name (my fault never wrote it down). I spent the next 6 or so months searching for my one and only. Unfortunately, i did not for the longest time, and i was desperate. I was throwing myself at every mexican restaurant i could find. Tasting the tacos, their cheese sauce, their tamales and etc. Then today, thank god my boyfriend had an appt in independence. I craved mexican after not having it for a month... AND BAMM I look on google, and there it is... Cozumel in independence ohio. I didn't know it at first, but it was my long-lost love! How excited i was to find that this was it, the very best forever favorite mexican restaurant. Thus, this concludes the dramatic love story between a star-struck girl and her taco and tamale providing love.

Warning for the next customers DONT LOSE THIS RESTAURANTS NAME, YOU WILL SPEND ETERNITY TRYING TO...

This was the first time we ate here, so I'm not sure if this is a usual thing. We ordered fajitas and ceviche to share plus some kids meals. The fajitas were ok. Not as flavorful as we're uses to, but not bad. The ceviche, however, had raw shrimp in it. It's hard to tell from the photo because phones adjust colors, but most of the shrimp still had translucent grey centers. You're not supposed to serve undercooked shellfish. Even sushi places cook the shrimp first. For ceviche, you soak the shrimp in lemon juice until completely pink, to kill bacteria and give it the "cooked" texture and look. How they thought it was acceptable to serve still grey shrimp to anyone, let alone a table with kids. Our server seemed busy and didn't come around very often, so we didn't end up sending it back and instead took it home to finish the cooking process. But no one should have to pay for a meal at a restaurant they have to take home and finish cooking, especially for the price.

We stopped in to eat dinner for my birthday after a long day of hiking at Cuyahoga Valley National Park. I eat a plant-based diet, so I had vegetable fajitas. The vegetables were a little overcooked, so not too satisfying. But the queso and chips were delicious! My family enjoyed their meals. The service was excellent, great staff, clean bathrooms, and a welcoming atmosphere. While we were waiting to be seated, I noticed they sold carrot cake. I was telling my family how I love carrot cake, but would only want a fresh, sliced cake. I ended up ordering carrot cake to go anyway. As we were leaving, my SIL asked, did you notice they cut you a fresh cake?! I don't know how the staff knew, but that exceeded expectations. The cake was delicious. Thank you guys so much!! I did not get any pictures of the food, I was starving. 😂

Great friendly & attentive service. Always a plus when they have an extra spicy salsa option as they did. I had the chicken enchilada rojas(red sauce). The downside to being raised on really good homemade Mexican food is that you expect that wherever you go. Authentic enchiladas are made different than the way they make them here is all I will say. But at the end of the day the chips and salsa was good so they deserve a solid 4. Last thing top keep in mind is that you shouldn't assume that all plates come with traditional "beans & rice", nope just rice here.
