El Volcan Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Independence

If I could give them 0 stars I would. Well, we just walked out of El Volcan Mexican Grill this afternoon. The service was just terrible. We sat down, waited for about 5 minutes then a waitress tosses the menus on the table, that’s it. That should have been enough for us to leave but we just let it go, maybe short staffed. You never know these days. About 5 minutes later we got chips from a waiter, different person, didn’t ask for our drink order. Another 5 minutes waiter gets our drink order, menus are folded on the table, didn’t ask if we were ready to order. Brings my water but my husband has to wait for his margarita, no water offered or brought to my husband. The waiter starts to walk away, we say we’re ready to order so waiter takes our order. A different waitress is filling salsa cups at the table, she starts to walk by us but we stop her and ask for refills on salsa. Another 5 minutes we get silverware and napkins from the waiter. 17 minutes later a different waitress comes and says they’re out of chicken. Mind you, 2 other tables came in after us, they had ordered, served their meals and 1 table is about finished. My husband says to the waitress that tells us they’re out of chicken, man your service sucks tonight. Just ring us up for the drinks and we’re leaving. The entire wait staff is all bent and starts arguing in Spanish. There were 6 employees I saw working. 2 in the kitchen and 4 waitstaff and this isn’t a big restaurant, it’s an old donut shop with about 11 tables and 3-4 chairs at the bar. Plenty of staff. So the wait staff just want to point fingers and/ or argue about what happened, mostly blaming the kitchen and it’s not the kitchen’s fault. The waitstaff was terrible. Not organized and giving terrible service. No one seemed to have a section. We had seen all 4 of the waitstaff for different reasons. The waitress that tossed the menus on the table looks at the ticket and say “ well this was rang in at 4:13” and seemed to be implying we hadn’t been there long, it was 4:30. I said “ yes, that’s right after our order was taken, we’ve been here for nearly an hour and it took you 17 minutes to come back and tell us you’re out of chicken. My husband says we should be about done by now It still took you another 17 minutes to tell us you’re out of chicken AND 2 other tables have ordered and been served after we got here. Just ring the drinks. Then they all start talking over one another, speaking in Spanish. Asking us what tablets got there after us and served before us. Just terrible service and rude employees. I’ve heard a family member left and opened their own restaurant in lees summit. Whatever the case may be, it’s changed and it shows. We used to love El Volcan. We won’t go back after this. I love their #3 entree it's 3tacos with a side of rice and beans. I always order double rice. On a Thursday evening I decided to call in my order so I can pick it up and go home to watch Grey's Anatomy. I was 10 mins away and they told me on the phone that it would be 20 mins. When I get there I'm thinking I have a 10 min wait not knowing its their taco third. Its crowded with wall to wall ppl trying to get in and out. So I wait an extra 20 mins 40 mins total for 3 tacos double rice and two tamales. Finally it's my turn, the waitress who is the manager gets my order from the window. Checks the ticket, opens my 2 containers puts it in a bag with my sauce gives it to me I pay then inch my way out of the restaurant. I get home which is a 20 min drive, by this time I have missed 1/2 of Grey's Anatomy. I open both of my containers and I'm missing my double rice. So I call get the waitress/manager who got my order together. I explained to her what happened she apologized and said if I come back they'll give me the rice! I explained to her that I live 20 mins away and I'm not driving back there for a mistake that she made, I saw her look at my ticket and inside the containers so she should have caught the over sight. I said can't you compensate for this next time I come back, she said No, I could come back now and get my rice..... wait through that crowd again for some RICE! No thank you. I asked for the manager and she says that she is the manager. So I explain again you checked the ticket and the containers you should have seen the oversight,I payed for a meal that was not all there. She apologized again and says I can come back for the rice. By this time I am so frustrated with her and this conversation I hang up. It will be a while before I go back to that place and I will tell everyone I know about that experience! Just...
