Ok, I haven't written many reviews ... like one or two. But I keep lamenting the ability to find good restaurants on the Space Coast, and I need to start doing my part to help others. We live in Satellite Beach, and want restaurants that are close and good, and not too expensive. This new restaurant seemed to fit the bill, especially as I'm a vegetarian and they seem to have many vegetarian options. So we tried it tonight.
We had a reservation for 6:30 and were seated immediately. Our server was friendly, and took our order pretty quickly. We had salads and soup, the salads were ok, the soup (mushroom brie) was quite delicious. And they came in a timely manner.
But then we waited for our main dishes. And waited. The waitress said after about 20 minutes (after the salad/soup) that it would be out "in a few minutes". My son joked that meant 15 minutes. I said "less than 5." We bet. He won. It was another 25 minutes before our food came - a full hour and 10 minutes after our reservation.
To be fair, my husband had soda water, and the waitress was great about keeping it refilled with soda water (that has never happened, it's always refilled with regular water). But then she gave us the waitress-speak ("a few more minutes") instead of telling us how long the food would actually be.
Now, to the meals. My son had scallops, and he said they were rubbery; the broccoli tasted like microwaved frozen broccoli (here we always cook it fresh); but the mashed potatoes were good.
My husband had meatballs (the Godfather) with pasta. He said the meatballs with a rich cream sauce was a strange combination, a marinara would be better (but I guess the meatballs were good underneath that). And, in fairness, it was what he ordered.
I got the Curry Bowl, and it had a good curry sauce - but again, it was a cream profile, with no spice, no salt flavor, and little sauce (the bowl was dry). It had noodles which were ok, rice which was chewy (either old or undercooked), and a combination of veggies that might have been good but they weren't cooked. (Chick peas - good; beets - good; bean sprouts - good, would have been better cooked; mushrooms - oddly raw; strawberry - good but strange; also, I added the fried cauliflower, which was good, but there were just a few pieces and it was an extra $3). The curry bowl was so creamy and one-dimensional I couldn't enjoy it, until I added some soy sauce (spicy sauce as well would have been a nice addition), and then it was ok. It did give me a good idea for cooking a similar bowl on my own, though, so I appreciate that.
So, pluses - my husband's soda water was kept filled; the waitress was pretty friendly; the mushroom-brie soup was very tasty; the mashed potatoes were good; fried cauliflower was good, but there wasn't much of it; we were seated quickly, with reservations.
The minuses - a super long time (over an hour) between ordering and receiving food; rubbery scallops; strange creamy meatballs (though in fairness it was what he ordered); and a one-dimensional curry bowl with undercooked/chewy/hard rice and veggies that should have been cooked (or it should have been noted in the menu that they were raw, like a salad).
I doubt we'll go back, which is a shame, as I really really want a great restaurant with several vegetarian...
Read moreTruly cannot say enough good things about this place!! After my graduation party was cancelled by Masa Taqueria just 8 days before my reservation, I was literally calling every place on Google with a patio. By a total stroke of luck Fresh Scratch Bistro had availability for my party, and I am so grateful that things didn’t work out at the original location. All I can say is WOW! Outstanding service and ambiance, coupled with great food and impressive portion sizes. This place does not MISS!
Kim was incredibly compassionate towards our situation and was happy to accommodate me in any way possible – she allowed us to bring our corn hole boards, cupcakes, small décor, balloons etc. She even offered to have us drop everything off in the morning so that the set up could be left to the staff and we could enjoy a stress free party. Later in the afternoon, Kim contacted me letting me know that one of my larger balloons was losing air. She went the extra mile, offering to go to the store to get a balloon pump, or to just try to find a matching balloon to replace the deflated one for me. This left such a great impression on my family and I.
Our server was Guy and he matched Kim’s energy in every way – they made a great team! He was attentive, prompt, polite and personable. He stated multiple times that he “was solely here to serve us” and that if there is anything he can do/adjust to accommodate us to just let him know. We were a group of around 30 and we were all moving around/mingling but he did a great job at remembering people’s names, keeping the tab’s organized and keeping our delicious cocktails coming (Shannon makes a great Moscow Mule!) He also went the extra mile and gave us a free “Happy Graduation” dessert, which was so thoughtful. Excellent service.
The patio was beautiful, clean, and covered; there were rain shields (should it have rained), fans, market lighting and live music. All of my guests had a great time and we were all raving about the amazing food. The food was genuinely SO spectacular, that we actually returned the next day for lunch! It has been far too long since I’ve experienced customer service like this. I seriously cannot recommend Fresh Scratch...
Read moreThis is a charming little restaurant located on A1A.
We dropped in after 1 PM for someone late lunch.
I had the French dip which was absolutely spectacular. The roll was so fresh. They might have baked it just before we got there. And the beef was very flavourful and tender.
As a side dish, I went with the chips now. Do not let the menu fool you. These are not out of the bag potato chips. These are out of the deep fryer freshly cooked chips. Krispy and well salted.
The older person with us thought it was too much salt but I liked it.
I forget their actual name for it. But the one dish that was disappointing was a bowl that consisted of fried rice, mango and pineapple. While they say it is made fresh to order. It looked and felt like it was a pre-made mix of ingredients that was just reheated. This will not be ordered again but other things on their menu will
The one disappointment was that they have an awesome sounding bananas. Foster's French toast on the menu and the menu says it is served until 2 PM.
We tried to order that, but we're told. It is only available on Sundays during brunch, which is not something that was noted on the menu.
While this restaurant has a very nice indoor section. There is also an outdoor covered patio with almost as many tables as inside. The patio does have roll down plastic sides in case the weather is bad.
It is a very nice little venue and we are actually returning there to celebrate our Thanksgiving meal with them on Thursday this year.
We would look forward to a High quality meal along with a very nice...
