I hate having to leave bad reviews but when it’s really, really bad, it’s necessary. Hoping this was one particularly disastrous night for this place but considering this was our second attempt since they’ve opened I gotta be honest about the experience as BOTH times were equally bad.
This place used to be a well run machine when it was formerly Brano's then Fresh Scratch Bistro. Last night there was no resemblance to order and the service was honestly, awful.
This was a Thursday night, not a weekend…and the porch was fully packed. There was no hostess. We were told by a passing server “sit wherever you want”- easy bc there was one dirty table left. It had not been cleaned and was never offered to be cleaned so we had to brush off the table using our hands bc there was no silverware or napkins to help.
A bar back or bartender? It was hard to tell who was assigned to us bc only some staff were in uniforms or shirts letting us know who was doing what. It took about 20 minutes for 2 glasses of wine? These weren’t mojitos we ordered.
After that…nothing. No waiter or waitress. No silverware. After another 20 minutes of waiting we flagged down who again we “thought” was a bartender to put an order in.
During the very, very, very long wait for food the porch was STRAIGHT CHAOS. The live music left us wanting to plug our ears and run. The volume and acoustics on that porch have historically been terrible - the karaoke type performer was interesting to say the least but you have to scream over that and everyone else if you sit outside and I’m not 90 years old so trust me when I tell you it’s very loud! Food runners kept attempting to deliver other diners' food to us but no sign of our own food. I watched several times people aimlessly walking around asking tables, "did your order...?" It was apparent the staff was struggling to know what went where.
When the food finally arrived around 8:30 p.m. (we had been there over an hour) it was not good. The clam chowder was chunky, dry, over-salted and gritty.
I ordered a crabby patty that was a very flattened and deeply fried crab cake served like a burger but was so greasy, oil surrounded it on the plate. The mashed red potatoes were ice cold.
We did have a few people approach us- one may have been a manager? She apologized a few times, stopping by the table more than once and believe gave us a 20% off card? Bless her for trying I think she knew this whole place was in flames. A random gentleman also approached us to apologize and offered to bring/get us anything. We had no idea who he was or why he was apologizing bc he did not have on a uniform and looked like another diner! Ha ha more confusion. We did appreciate their offers to make things right, but by the time these offers were extended, it was a little too late.
We had to ask for silverware twice after our food was delivered. We never had our waters refilled. No one ever came to wipe down our dirty table. When it was time to pay the bill, the bartender disappeared for 15 minutes and we had to go find him to flag him down.
I want to support because it’s in my neighborhood and the porch has historically been a great place beachside for people to hang out. This was not a great...
Read moreMy party and I went early on a Friday evening (around 4:30pm) with only two other tables sitting in the inside dining area with us.
Clean and decorated nicely was a good sign but unfortunately it went down hill from there.
Our waitress was clearly new at serving, was very frazzled and not able to answer any questions about the food or drink menu without getting help from someone else, which is fine, but became frustrating.
We started with a simple drink order, however, each one had to be repeated to her multiple times as she just didn’t understand the difference between vodka, rum or tequila. Nor did she know how to ring it up on her ordering pad she carried and was using. Again, very frustrating for such simple drink orders.
The drinks themself were so watered down and lacked any flavor, while another was completely wrong but we pushed through.
I ordered the Crab Bisque to start and asked for it with my meal… it was goop! Completely gelatinous. The texture was extremely offputting, and there was no flavor, absolutely as bland as it could be. It was anything BUT a bisque, it was a chowder and a horrible one at that.
We all ordered burgers/ sandwiches. My friends had the “smash burger” and was asked how she would like it cooked? (Odd) It came out well done as any smash patty has to and was just 2 regular thin patties and far from a smash. Again, their menu is stating something they do not offer.
My chicken sandwich was fried in what smelled, tasted and looked like OLD oil. Being a new restaurant, that seems hard to achieve, but there it was! Absolutely had no flavor, an obvious strange and off putting texture and I had asked for the tomato and lettuce on the side.. it was on the sandwich which made the bread soggy (hence why I made the request)
My other friend got the fried fish sandwich (unsure of the type of fish) with yet again the same gross batter that was fried in old oil. Again, she commented on how meh it was and just had no flavor.
Fries were an extra $3! Fries usually come with burgers and sandwiches, but they offer chips.
Waiting for the check was a 30 minute affair. We finally had to get someone else to find our waitress.
This place was one of the biggest disappointments I’ve had in quite some time. Don’t waist your time or money on their food or drinks. The only thing they have to offer is a good location and nice...
Read moreStopped in at Tide & Tonic last night because it looked inviting. The outdoor patio / bar area was clean, lively, and comfortable. I enjoyed the lighting and atmosphere a lot. Out back they have an open air lawn with lounge seating and a fire table. It looked like a great place to chill with friends and drinks, but we came for the food and music, so we chose a table and were immediately greeted and brought drinks. The excellent, attentive, and friendly service continued through the evening. Food and drinks came out fast, and we felt well taken care of but not at all rushed. We enjoyed awesome live music by Kevin Ebright as an added bonus.
For food, we shared the Burrata Bruscetta - fresh creamy burrata with well seasoned pan roasted tomatoes and lightly toasted baguette slices; a bowl of clam chowder made with big chunks of clam, bacon, chopped celery, onion, and potato - tasted like it was house made; Caesar salad was fresh and tasty, included with entree; the pompano surf style was cooked beautifully, not dried out at all, and so flavorful! It was also a huge portion. I would've liked to see something more done with the rice. It was pretty basic and seemed like an afterthought compared to the rest. The mocha cheesecake was rich and delicious with a light coffee flavor and chocolate syrup drizzle. They have a full bar. Mango Cart (my favorite), Landshark, Blue Moon, Kona Big Wave, and a couple others were on tap. I would love to see them add a couple local craft choices too! Overall, it made for a great meal and an enjoyable evening. Highly...
