Scrambled Egg Cafe 727 Pinetree Dr. Indian Harbour Beach, FL 32937
5 Stars
Scrambled Egg Cafe is a newer addition to the area's eating establishments, having opened a mere 15 years ago. However, as it is run so well, it has become somewhat of a local icon, and it seems like it's always been around. This is evidenced by the number of locals crowding the place from open to close. This place is ALWAYS busy.
Debbie is the owner, and our waitstaff here today. She is a genius who empowers her employees. If every self-proclaimed Christian were as friendly, warm, giving and supportive of their fellow human as Debbie is, many people would see religion differently than they do. I know this affirmed Agnostic would. Kudos, Debbie! I ordered one Greek Omelet with extra Feta, one Egg Salad, and one Grilled Cheese and Ham sandwich.
Debbie soon returned with our order, snapping the requisite pictures, I eagerly got to stuffing my pi...I mean, I eagerly got to work. First up on the Big Boy's punctilious palate was the Greek Omelet with extra Feta. Just do me a favor here and LOOK AT THE PICTURE! LOOK AT IT! Not only is it picture perfect of how an omelet should look, but it was stuffed with tons of yummy Greek stuff, and that hash brown is almost too perfectly formed not to have come from the freezer (it didn't). Taste-wise, how can you go wrong with fresh hand-cut tomatoes, fresh spinach, and tons of crumbled Feta? You can't. OPA!
In fear of regaining the embonpoint I've recently lost, I forced myself only to try what was needed for the review and moved on to the Egg Salad Sandwich. This was so spectacularly delicious I know without asking that it was made fresh that morning in the back (I actually do ask what is and what isn't made on site in the beginning of my service). The sandwich was packed solid with the stuff and it was all I could do to move on to the Grilled Cheese and Ham, but I was here to work, not eat (so to speak).
I love me a good Grilled Cheese. I mean, who doesn't? Talk about nostalgic comfort food; this has the 70s and Mom written all over it. Nestled between two perfectly grilled pieces of white bread and piled high with ham, this epitomized a Grilled Cheese and Ham. The accompanying potato chips were fresh and crisp.

The lunch meat didn't seem that great of quality but not bad. I wanted to bring my husband here and give it a SHOT again. We ordered our food and the only thing that I was able to try before asking for a refund were the home fries.. NOT impressed! They tasted as if they were cooked the night before and thrown in the microwave before being served to me. Parts were mush while another part of the potato were hard. The seasoning needs improvement as well. They were not served even close to warm. I was reaching for the ketchup when I noticed the ketchup bottle was unclean and had a large fruit fly on it. I shooed it away then noticed two more fruit flies flying around me.. Not even 2 seconds later I noticed little bugs crawling all over the table.. I started to look more when I noticed literally hundreds of ghost ants trailing along the wooden wall panels horizontally down to the front door and going back down towards the end of the restaurant (didn't follow them further than that) I instantly lost my appetite and so did my husband. He didn't even have a chance to take one bite. I informed my server of the issue and she instantly drew the conclusion that we were not from Florida. She stated that they are only sugar ants and they mean no harm. She reassured me that my food would be fine and the ants were not in my food. I informed the server we would not be eating our food. She brought the issue up to the owner. The owner was sitting in the restaurant literally 4 steps away and she didn't even make an effort to stop by our table and talk to us. (please note that there were only 2 other tables being occupied at this time) I just wanted to say I understand that Florida has issues with ants but this is a restaurant and not a home. You have to ensure health and safety of the community when you have a restaurant. If you have a pest issue, then call pest control! You have to do everything possible to keep your business clean...
