This was our second attempt at trying Sam's (the Highlander Point location). The first time was this past New Year's Eve. We were promptly seated, but after being left at our table, we sat for about 20 minutes waiting for someone to come take our drink orders (which never happened), then finally got up and left.
So last weekend (July 16), we decided to give Sam's another try. I saw one other group in the restaurant, in the bar section. We were, once again, seated rather promptly. Our waitress showed up to take our drink orders (already looking more promising than the last visit), brought our sweet teas, and then took our food orders. Waitress was courteous, but did not put one ounce of effort into being friendly/gracious. In the more than 20 minutes of sitting/waiting (ordered of a fish sandwich, hamburger, and onion rings), with my husband's empty ice tea glass sitting there, not once did anyone offer to replenish his empty glass. My husband was trying to make eye contact with the waitress, but watched her check her cell phone, then walk out the door. Evidently her shift was over, but she didn't bother to stop by our table to check on things, or tell us someone else would be taking over...nothing.
The waitress taking over did stop by to refill my husband's ice tea at least, but didn't introduce herself or mention checking on our food. The food came out within five minutes of the switchover. My husband's fish sandwich was on plain, white bread - he hadn't been asked if he preferred wheat or rye. He did say the fish tasted good, although he doesn't prefer white bread. My hamburger was very average. The pickles/tomatoes, lettuce looked good and seemed fresh, which was a plus. But the underside of my bun was so overdone that it crunched when I chewed...like a crouton. I'd heard good things about Sam's onion rings, but the batter was really hard - maybe they'd been fried too long??? Other than being asked how things looked when the food was initially brought to our table, we were never asked about our meal during or afterward...we weren't checked on at all until it was time for the check. I hope others have a more positive experience, but for us, it was disappointing, both the service and the food. We will NOT be going back for...

The service was great starting with our host Alex. He made some great recomendations starting with the Wong tongs for an appetizer! Delicious! The waitess was very friendly and efficcent. She had been there 17 years. My husband ordered the Fins and Feathers $15.00. I ordered the Chicken Liver Dinner $13.99. Both were steaming HOT. Fresh homemade food!! Huge portions! Definitely take home too!! If driving through or close by we HIGHLY RECOMEND Sam's as a Great place to eat! Wish there was one closer to home! Thank ya'll for Great Food and Great...
Read moreI have never been disappointed in Sam's at Highlander Point. From my wedding rehersal dinner 18 years ago to a night out with my wife, always great.
I wanted carry out on my way home Saturday at 9:03pm. I called and a girl answered. I said I would like to place a carry out order and she said they were closed. I said "9 o'clock on Saturday? " she said since covid, we close at different times. I went next door to the Subway instead and there were people at Sam's out on the patio and inside and they were clearly open.
I would have much rather have spent my money on a grilled Cobb salad, but I guess the girl that answered the phone had other plans...
