There are restaurants catering to a variety of levels of dining experience and seafood is apparently no exception. You know how Penn Station is a cut above Jimmy John's and a cut below Panera's?
Caplinger's is like that if you pick Captain D's and Red Lobster. It serves oysters, lobsters, salmon and clams cajun/creole style yet is still fast food. You can spend a LOT of money if you get a shrimp appetizer and a lump lobster sandwich but you get a lot for that money. The fries are wedge-cut and crispy surroundings on moist interiors, the spicy lobster melt sandwich is nicely but not overwhelmingly spicy and so stuffed full you have to eat it open-faced with knife and fork. The greens were very well dressed and had the perfect amount of salt pork.
The only downside is that the shrimp cocktail used watery, rubbery shrimp that were clearly frozen. I'd also suggest skipping dessert and anything else that comes in the pre-packaged refrigerator in favor of a place that serves fresh. Like the shrimp cocktail, they have probably been sitting too long to be their best.
The staff, by the way, is very friendly and willing to answer any questions you may have. The only reason for one star off is the shrimp cocktail. Recommend you visit during off-hours as they are...
Read moreWow wow wow. What an experience I felt like I was entering somebody's home when I was greeted right away as a person not as patron. I asked the tall fella(sorry I forgot his name) what is better the lobster roll or the lobster melt. He recommended the cod admitting that that is his go to. I decided to stick with the lobster and get mine Melty.
Then the experience begun. I noticed a fish market on the other side of the counter and the same guy gave me the grand tour. He talked with me about how fresh the fish where and even gave me the heads up about an upcoming valentines day promotion. He capped it off with a sample of the most delicious and fresh oyster I have ever had the privilege of being a part of. The taste made me feel like I had taken a step into paradise on the beach wow. What a stand up guy this man needs a raise.
The lovely lady brought me my food as I was shopping for fish and I promised I would be back soon.
Now for lunch.
The fries where unbelievably crispy and seemed to have a light beautifly seasoned batter. I wish I had some kind of signature sauce to dip them in but other than that wow again.
The lobster melt was nice and you could tell that lobster was fresh. Packed high onto a beautiful pretzel bun.
Great food great...
Read moreThis place surprised the complete hell out of me. I had never heard of this place before and the manager/owner or someone training another at the register was saying they had been there for 2 years. I thought how could this be, I just ate pizza from pizza hut like a few weeks ago. But I guess my clock is off.
This place has some hushpuppies that I damn near had to call a rehab clinic over. I could eat those hushpuppies for breakfast, then at lunch and dinner. I'd even snack on them at night. So good.
And the pork tenderloins were literally the best I have ever had. The meat was so juicy and tender. I joke now, but when I left I was irritated because I've cooked tenderloins so many times and despite pounding them for 20 minutes, NEVER turn out like this. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.
Really Caplingers Fresh Catch, what kind of operation do you all have going on there. What else is in the food? I've had lots of hushpuppies, lots of tenderloins and lots of Rootbeer, but this was. . . addicting.
If you have not had food from this place, and by the way not just fish slangin going on there...they slang chicken too, you have to try this place. At the very least order some hushpuppies and...
