First time visitors. I love Middle Eastern/Arabic food, and while the flavor of our mixed grill was amazing and the portion was extremely generous, as much as I loved the taste, while the rice, grilled chicken and the yogurt salad were absolutely perfect, unfortunately I can't give them more than 3 stars. There were unforgivable issues ruining our experience. Our server was nice, welcomed us without delay, and took our orders very fast. But for no apparent reason, we were waiting about 40 minutes for our lunch to be served. The restaurant was not busy at all. There were probably 3 customers only. When the food came, it was just a little bit cold. But it looked amazing, and the flavor was on point. It was at least a 4 star dish. Unfortunately, though, our drinks were warm and our mood was ruined by the long waiting till the food was served. I had ordered a tea platter to be served after the meal. The tea was served in paper cups, sugar already included. It was a very well made tea, a bit too sweet, but serving it in paper cups? Come on!
I don't really mind waiting for the food. I don't mind my Pepsi getting warm sitting on the table for 40 minutes. I do mind the paper cup for my tea, but I guess it's a COVID issue and I forgive them for it. I accept the fact that culturally, Middle Eastern food is always on the overcooked side and usually a little bit dry, and I like it as it is. What I can't accept is forcing your religion on your paying customers. I thank the restaurant management for honoring us by playing a Holy Quran recitation for the whole time we were there, thanks, but no, thanks! It's not a mosque, it's not a madrasa, it's a restaurant and we are paying customers. I guess I'm not gonna be your customer...
Read moreThis place used to be the Taste of Dubai, one of our favorite spots to eat. We were surprised to find it had changed to Taste of Yemen, and while we had reservations about trying it, we're glad we did. The food was excellent! The service was good, and the staff was very welcoming.
We ordered the lamb chops, grilled fish, liver sandwich, and burma. The fish was fresh, and for seafood lovers, you can definitely taste the difference between fresh and frozen. The lamb burma was delicious and tender, the liver sandwich was good, and the lamb chops were tasty, though I wished they were a bit crispier. All dishes came with a plate of very delicious biryani rice. While we waited, they served us some plain naan with dips.
For drinks, we had lemonade with mint and Adani tea, both of which were very good. I did wish the drinks were served in real glass cups instead of Styrofoam, but I understand they do this to reduce labor costs for washing dishes, which helps keep prices low. Speaking of prices, I found them to be reasonable.
When I arrived, I asked if this used to be Taste of Dubai, and a young staff member confirmed with a big smile, saying, "Yes, it was, but Taste of Yemen is better!" And he wasn’t lying! My only hope is that their quality remains the same in the future. Often, when a restaurant is new, it offers its best, but as they get more customers, the quality can decline, leading to a...
Read moreI was so surprised when we drove by and found this place... especially since they have shwarma!
My wife and I each have traveled to the Middle East, including Dubai, Qatar, Kuwait and the UAE... and this was outstanding. It brought back so many memories... and the sights, smells, and even the music brought us across decades and thousands of miles.
You have the option to eat at a table, or behind a curtain, seated with your shoes off. Decor is sparse... but with some neat accents.
But you didn't come here for that... you came for the food! Absolutely get the hummus and falafel. It's a traditional appetizer, and well worth it.
For our party of three, we did two different shwarmas (beef/lamb, and a chicken)... and one entree. Total was $49, plus tip.
If you want to go inexpensive, get a shwarma sandwich each, which includes fries.
The rice with the entree was amazing. Well cooked, and an almost overwhelming amount of spices and flavors! Saffron, among others. Soooo good.
Oh yeah what is shwarma? Kinda like a wrap, with meat, tomatoes, pickles, onions and amazing spices and sauce.
This is definitely worth going to. The strip mall location is unassuming... but the food...
