This was our first trip to Crouse Cafe. After a short wait to be seated for a Sunday noon meal, we were greeted by a friendly waitress who explained our dining options. A couple in our party had the chicken dinner special (ham balls were the other special but were already sold out). One of the other two people went with a Reuben sandwich and the other went with one of the many breakfast options on the menu, a generous plate of French Toast. Everyone in our party enjoyed their food and the gracious service. We will definitely return to the Crouse Cafe to try some of the other food choices. Based on today's experience, get there early for Sunday lunch to make sure all of the specials and the wonderful looking pie are still available.

This family style restaurant has been my absolute favorite place to eat now for 15+ years. In all the times I've been there not once have they messed up my food AT ALL. Not even a missing straw. The food is always served fresh and hot so I definitely know what to expect when I walk in those doors. The staff has always been amazing, super friendly, willing to make you and your family laugh and feel comfortable there & help out with whatever they can. I could probably keep going with all the amazing things about this place. There's something for everyone in the family. Highly recommend this place to anyone who has never been!

Crouse Cafe in Indianola. This place was VERY clean. They recently had an employee test positive for Covid, so they had to close down. Today is the first day they have been open since. We watched them thoroughly clean each table before they sat people down. They’re very nice and energetic. Mom got the Turkey club with a side of onion rings. The onion rings were thin and crispy. And moms turkey club was very filling. I think she ate half and was full. The Hot Beef was GOOD. Real mashed potatoes. Homemade gravy not from a packet. 😋 AND it was only $16 total! I would definitely return here!!

Oh my is all I can say small town dinning at its finest. This place is were the fill you up with a smile is. Sitting right next to the movie theater off of the heart of town and easy to find you will miss it if not looking and if you it shame on you , turn around now, really?, still can't find well stop anywhere in town and they will know where it's at. This is my idea of what a dinner is about good portion size, food that makes you want more even when after you un buckled that belt, but you better remember to leave room for some pie. Breakfast lunch or diner you will find it, and at very reasonable prices to. So Remer to tip those Crouse girls, they work there butts off, with a smile on there faces. Plus how many names can you possibly remember in a town of 14000, hats off you you all. Also not to forget those cooks thanks for the belly 😅, but seriously I know how little people notice you, get back there make there day and tell them how good it was. Maybe even slid them an extra buck. Because Im sure they have family's to support, and we all know how few places there are left that will treat you they way in which even on a bad day your leaving with a smile. Hey don't believe me, still just look at there wall of publicly voted awards to prove it. Thanks you guys for standing for what big city lost, for one of the reason Iowa is the number one places to move. 🤔 OK schools, low crime, low unemployment I guess those are good reasons to, but I'm throwing in there with. Yet only you can determine if I'm right so time for a quick road trip if not from around here, which if looking for a review on them I will go ahead and say your not. So what are you waiting for, get down there and see for yourself, it's worth the drive from New York lol😎, but seriously it is. Remember if this was helpful or you just like to hear me babel give my post a...

We went for the weekend breakfast buffet on Sunday. Like many who live in Indianola, we have been to Crouse's many times and it never disappoints. The breakfast buffet price has increased about $5 since we moved to town 9 years ago. It's now $14 each and includes your drink. You can still order off the menu if you're not a buffet person.😒

The usual selections on the buffet include pancakes, eggs Benedict, quiche, cheesy rice, scrambled eggs, fried potatoes, bacon, link sausage and biscuits and gravy. Oh yeah, and an amazing selection of bakery desserts like cinnamon rolls, sticky buns, pineapple upside down cake, cheesecake, apple pie, brownies and several others. This is a comfort food lover's dream breakfast.

Mid morning, 9-10, is the busiest time, so you might wait 15-20 minutes to get seated. We got there at 830 and sat down right away. I think they serve the buffet until noon, but you might call first. The servers are REALLY busy, so cut them some slack, but service is generally pretty good and friendly. They accept credit/debit and cash and you pay at the register. This is a family owned diner and they have really good nightly specials and fresh pies daily. If you give them a day's notice, I believe you can order a special pie for the next day. I also think they are closed Mondays.

Places like Crouse's are getting harder to find, so check...

We had eaten here a couple years ago and talked about coming back because the food was so good. This occasion was a different story. It was a Saturday afternoon and we arrived around 1 p.m. Not busy at all. We were seated upon arrival. The waitress was very friendly and got our drinks right away. I ordered the hot turkey sandwich (which I had on our first visit) and my hubby ordered the chicken fried steak. My turkey was a pinkish yellow color, I think instant mashed potatoes and the gravy…it was not good. It was brown and looked like it had been sitting in the pan because there was kind of scummy pieces in it like from when you let gravy cool down and it gets set on top. Overall mine was a big disappointment. My hubby’s chicken fried steak…another disappointment. He said the steak wasn’t too bad but the potatoes and gravy were awful. Usually when he orders this it comes with a white pepper gravy. This gravy was yellow, had absolutely no flavor and no pepper. Total bomb! I don’t know if it has changed owners or what happened but we will not be going back. And the restrooms were no clean and in desperate need of a...
