Deng's Garden — Restaurant in Indianola

We usually like the food here, but tonight we ordered our food to go. When paying, I thought the prices seemed high. It turns out they have raised their prices and have not updated their online menu to reflect the increase. We ordered one appetizer and one entree that we were going to share. I got there early so that I could get the food as soon as it came out. The price was almost $29.00. When I got the food back home, I discovered that they had not included the fried rice that we asked for. I had to drive back and get the fried rice while the rest of my food, much of which was fried, was getting cold and soggy. I asked the manager what he would offer as compensation for their mistake. He offered to give us the fried rice!! What?!?! He offered to give us the thing we already paid for! Unacceptable!! If he would have offered a free appetizer the next visit, we would go back. As it stands, we’re crossing Deng’s Garden off the list. There were zero customers in the dining room at 7:20 p.m. and I told him they just lost another customer. I just had dinner here for the first time. And the last time. I ordered the Mongolian Beef and a small bowl of egg drop soup. The soup was good. But they could make it a lot better. Egg drop soup is a simple dish, but it can be made excellent with any number of simple ingredients. And they chose to make mediocre soup instead. The Mongolian Beef had a very unusual taste and smell. Neither of them pleasant. I tried adding soy sauce to no avail. I don't think it was a quality soy sauce. I left 2 stars because the service was good. And the rice was good. But the soy sauce and Mongolian Beef are horrible. As far as I am concerned, I should get a refund since 90% of my Mongolian Beef went into the trash. My total before tip was $19.21. You can take out for the Pepsi. Food was amazing as always. As a fellow server, I know that the service was awful here. I know they are short staffed but there was two servers, normal Wednesday dinner traffic, but took more than 20 minutes to get checked on and waited another 20 minutes to get the check or be asked for a box (had my dirty dishes at the end of the table and they walked by multiple times). Never got asked if I would like more water. Probably will be back for food, just not dine in next time. Everybody has bad days, so I get it, just probably will go somewhere...
