The Outside Scoop — Restaurant in Indianola

Outside Scoop has not gotten any better over the summer, have been going their for multiple years and this year has by far been the worse. The storms have never been the same, they are the consistency very soft. Also I guess you don't get topping on it anymore. Plus like tonight, it says you can get 2 topping within a storm, tonight the person I was with ordered a cookie dough and reeses storm which is 2 toppings like it says and we got 1 of each. The employee didn't even ask to double check what he really wanted. So I was stuck with the other one that will be going to waste because it is not what we ordered. We have been their quite a few times this year, and have yet to see the same person working twice, in past summers you would know the employees as soon as you walked in the door. Needless to say I have given Scoop one two many chances and is very sad to say that it is now not the best ice cream place in town in quickly went...

The ice cream is fine and there a few bougie flavors like lavender, goat cheese and cherries, and keto iterations of the classics, but it made me sad to eat an ice cream cone that's been pushed scoop side down in a bowl, to pay 7 bucks for that scoop, only for the ice cream to be more memorable for the aforementioned than for its taste.

That said, the ice cream itself is perfectly fine. I tried vanilla when I visited. It's a blunt take on vanilla- a dense ice cream with mild creaminess and mild vanilla intensity. In my opinion, a killer vanilla works when there's a soft, almost buttery mouth feel, a freshness to the cream, and most of all a vanilla with enough complexity to balance the sugar. They haven't yet achieved that here.

And god, cone in a bowl hurts my heart.

Bottom line: If you're rich, aren't a huge ice cream buff, need ice cream to live, and/or hate ice cream cones, you'll probably enjoy it. If not, skip it. At...

We went to the Indianola location and I absolutely love the ice cream! Unfortunately a gentleman staff was working with a very pleasant woman staff that was very helpful. But, my daughter was having difficulty eating the ice-cream and I was trying to figure how some way to get the ice-cream a little softer for her and the woman was all for helping me and I was willing and ready to pay for whatever I needed to but the gentleman wasn't willing to compromise anything. Thank you to the woman but do better for our little ones!
