We had steak enchiladas, steak nachos, and a fajita burrito with steak. We also ordered Jarritos. So for the burrito- I ordered jasmine rice which was plain no seasoning 🤨 (seriously season your stuff- cooking 101). Jasmine rice is an interesting choice in a Mexican setting. Jasmine rice has a naturally floral smell and taste, lending itself well to be eaten plain with such foods as Indian. I'm not sure it works great here unseasoned with Mexican. In my opinion it throws the flavor profile a bit off. Additionally the burrito was DRY inside. It's not exactly a good bite of burrito to get a full mouth of just dry rice with no other salsa or creama or anything to bring the textures together. I ordered three kinds of salsa and sour cream so I don't understand how it was possibly dry. The fajita peppers in the burrito were also oddly nearly raw. I was expecting some tender grilled peppers with a little char for flavor- not what I got. On the plus size- the burrito was HUGE. About the size of my head. We go the the spanish rice on the nachos which was infinitely better with some seasoning. More flavor and fit better with the flavor profile. However, I did not like the choice of chips. They were grainy and did not hold up well for nachos. On the other hand- the steak was really nice and tender which was nice, but slightly under seasoned. Please remember to season your stuff! The tortillas was SPOT ON delicious.
Overall a 4/5 - this place has a good potential for strong staying power in the IC area and a real competition against Pancheros and Chipotle. I think if you can fix the above things you'll be nearing a perfect rating. It's all in the small things and the details and being consistent. And your prices are EXPENSIVE compared to others which means to stay you need to step up these small...
Read moreI really liked this place ever since I settled in Iowa City: they offer a great quantity of food with good taste and price. After having a long day, my husband and I missed the burritos. We picked up food (one Iowan for me and another with chicken for my husband) and took it home. You can feel my joy from my first photo - the size of my burrito (the Iowan). Everything was great until I chewed a nail in the burrito. This is way beyond my imagination.
I felt so disgusting. I could not eat anything further and kept vomiting all night. One of my teeth hurts because I bit the nail hard. Nobody wants to pay for food that can jeopardize him/her, even for free or even being paid! The scariest thing is what if I swallowed this nail? What if there were two nails and I have already swallowed one? I am visiting the hospital today.
Last night, I tried to write and explain this using their website "contact" but the system never allows me to press the "submit" button. So I decided to write this...
Read moreI can't find the company on Glassdoor, so I figured I would post here.
I am an ex-employee of this place. It is worth noting that I am currently a student, and taking this job was a way for me to afford rent. Needless to say, as a student, I can have pretty wonky schedules, which can require me to need to have time off every once in a while. I let them know of this in advance of me being hired, and they said that it was fine.
However, the last few weeks, I have either been scheduled for one day, or no days. Again, I need this job to pay for rent. I contacted one of the owners, to no response. Called, no response. It has been two weeks since my last shift, and even then that shift was only a couple hours long. I can tell by their ghosting attitude they have shown that they are unprofessional when it comes to treating their employees right. I could go into a nice, long rant about how wrongly they treated me, but that is for...
