George's Buffet — Restaurant in Iowa City

We went on a fairly busy night around 10pm; liked that they had a lot of seating, including outside. When we walked in the place smelled amazing, so much so I decided to order a burger. Which the bartender sighed and looked at the clock and rolled her eyes. The guy before me at the bar had ordered 8 burgers and he said they serve food until midnight. There were at least four people working behind the bar, so not sure why the attitude?

WORST thing about the place: THE BURGER! A frozen patty was placed in some weird looking oven thing and not sure if the meat was so fatty or they use a water bath, but the texture was offputting and the flavor was worse! Even after not eating supper and drinking that evening, I couldn't finish my burger...that's how bad it was!

This is one of the few remaining landmarks for the Common Man left in Iowa City. The decor, the structure, and the interior contents are basically the same as they were when I went to the University of Iowa starting in 1973. And I believe it's probably about the same as when my father graduated from the University of Iowa in the 1940s. I was looking for a decent buffet to eat at when I was in Iowa City, Iowa not long ago when I made a phone call to this place and asked them if their buffet was still running. I'm glad I made that phone call because this place does NOT even have a buffet! Can anyone say FALSE ADVERTISING! Owner, "Sure, I'm just going to name my business some type of buffet, so that I can deceive people and lure them to my place to eat. Mwahahaha!".
