Acapulco Mexican Bakery — Restaurant in Iowa City

I walked in early in the morning and I had to greet the employee first. We continued to grab our stuff and then I had to let her know we were ready and said “I’ll be right there.” During that time another customer walked in to send money after we were ready and the cashier proceeded to help them first after I’ve been waiting to check out. She then told me to take the stuff out the basket as if I’m getting paid for doing her job and waiting.

Honestly I’ve never been treated so bad before. I’m also super disappointed in the customer service. I wasn’t rude at all but I was visibly upset and the cashier just didn’t care. The customer service needs to be worked on.

Buyer Beware. I try to support the small businesses in Iowa City and have shopped Acapulco Bakery in the past. Prices are not well marked and usually seem higher but this day clearly seemed overpriced. I purchased a 4 lb bag of Maseca Masa Harina here for $10.49. Price at Walmart is under $4.00. The Pan pre-cooked white cornmeal is harder to find locally. Price for 5 lb here was $12.49. Current price on Amazon currently $6.19 delivered to my door. I cannot justify paying $23 for items I can get elsewhere for less than $10.19. I’m going to view this place as a last resort from here on. This place is a hole in the wall. People always seem to go to La Regia because of how popular they've gotten over the years.

La Regia is good though, but this place is so much better. I wish they had seafood options for their tacos/burritos. Although, there is a mariscos menu for entrees. This place does not get stingy with their portions. You get a lime per taco which is really nice and they load up on the meat! I got the Al Pastor, carnitas, and lengua. Very yummy and flavorful!
