My wife and I stopped in for lunch while driving through Iowa City, and we were glad we did. Its location seems a bit out of the way: from our approach it looked like a car service station. That just turned out to be the attached bicycle shop.
The staff is still getting up to speed and was preemptively apologetic about everything. However, we had delicious, inventive pasta and a veggie burrito full of savory, perfectly roasted vegetables. The lentil soup was simple and satisfying. The beer and cocktail lists were impressive too, and I regretted that I was getting back in the car so soon that I couldn't try anything listed on them. The final espresso was too weak for my taste, but, again, our waiter apologized beforehand and said they were still getting the hang of the espresso machine. The prices were fair, and we were on our way all too soon.
I love their space. It's a deep, dark room with a long mirrored bar along one wall. There's a stage near the back, and I think it would be a fun place to go to a show. Also, I loved the Tolkein/D&D fantasy-themed paintings in the men's room. Unusual little things like that really endear me to bars and eateries. I envy you, Iowa City. I think this place will turn will into...
Read morePerhaps, like many of you, you watched the Netflix documentary, The Game Changers. Which was a compelling documentary about athletes who switched to a full plant based diet and saw their athletic prowess (and male “stamina”) increase exponentially. After watching said documentary I found my opinions swayed toward trying cuisine that was primarily constructed of plant based protein. To my surprise, Trumpet Blossom delivered.
Shoddy science and opinion swaying tactics aside, I found the Trumpet Blossom to have been a quaint little eatery that does offer live music. We didn’t stay around for the band though we did see them set up. They looked like hearty young lads who could hold a tune. I had a black bean burrito which was well above whatever standard many have for black bean burritos.
Trumpet Blossom Cafe is the only vegan restaurant I’ve patronized. I’m not eagerly searching for my next plant based excursion either. Joe Rogan has a few podcasts dedicated to debunking The Game Changers that were very compelling and seem to do a good job dismantling the “Science” behind plant based diets... also a debate too, which is quite refreshing in the world of...
Read moreThis is a nice little vegan restaurant in the heart of Iowa city near the University of Iowa. This restaurant has fully vegan menu with a very good variety of appetizers entrees and desserts combined with a great selection of beers wines non alcoholic beverages and cocktails. We ordered a couple of draft beers and a non alcoholic beverage named Trumpet blossom chill. For appetizers we ordered the heat of palm crab cakes with a tangy mustard based aioli. For mains we ordered the Falafel burger, with sides of sweet potato fries and tomato soup with corn bread, spicy coconut milk Thai curry, cold noodles. I really loved the crab cakes, falafel burger and the corn bread. The soup was a hearty tomato soup with a hint of basil and oregano. The sweet potato fries that accompanied the burger were really crispy on the outside and chewy inside and were accompanied with really good dipping sauces. The draft beers and the trumpet blossom Chill were really good as well. The trumpet blossom chill had a really nice floral note from the rose and a nice underlying bitterness from the coffee. Overall it was a really good...
