Bottom line: Yikes. Avoid. We probably should've packed it all up and gotten a refund, but we chose to push through and write this review instead.
Pros: Wait staff was friendly and helpful The inside is kinda cool... Pool tables, arcade machines, darts... Probably a fun place to grab a drink.
Cons: the food is the cheapest, most out of the box, flavorless, DISGUSTING food I've ever had from a restaurant. Me and four others made a $100 takeout order and every single item was at best a disappointment and probably closer to "unsafe to eat":
Two garden salads that contained little more than spring mix. Shrimp on one seemed fine, Buffalo chicken on the other was soft and tasted like a frozen Tyson chicken finger rolled gently in hot sauce.
3 bowls of clam chowder that could be used to lay brick. This chowder stuck to the spoon. The top of the lid popped off in the bag on the way home and it did not spill. My mother asked "who ordered mashed potatoes?" when she opened one.
The order of totchos was topped with cold, stiff, melted cheese, black beans, canned corn kernels, and pickled jalapeños. I don't know how but this place somehow managed to ruin tater tots. There was 0 crisp and, somehow even with hot peppers, no flavor.
My family took turns trying the Loaded Nachos and the reactions included "tastes exactly like cardboard", "they coated it with bug spray I need a drink", "were these cooked in rancid oil?", and other distasteful remarks that shan't be written in public.
The chicken quesadilla was burnt but otherwise fine.
One or more of us may be inclined to report this food to the board of health on Monday. I don't see Ipswich Tavern staying very long if this is the best they have to offer on a...
Read moreWent there last Friday and last night in what was supposed to be a happy occasion. The bartender working nights is extremely rude and acts as if she is God in the flesh. She gave only me my drinks then ran to the back as she apparently “wanted to fight” one of our group members last Friday that she remembered (last Friday he said No to keeping a tab open, how very dare he!). When our group was getting drinks we were going to a table inside but it was clear the bartender was trying to make the atmosphere miserable for us (went from fun dance music to blasting an Opera song to Nickleback). Unfortunately for her we were unbothered by the sound choices. We went onto the patio and were out of her hair until 12:15 when she made two laps shouting that it was last call and that if we wanted to be there we had to go inside. By 12:18 we had been yelled at 4 times as we were all just trying to make our way inside (a member of our party was on crutches). Overall the worst bartender I have had the misfortune to be served by. Hopefully the area has somewhere else open late as if she stays there the new place will get tons...

Outdoor dining area with several tables, TVs, and music. Indoor game room with old school video games, pool table, and other bar games.
Decent draft and can selection of beers. Lots of standard pub grub and some cool twists on traditional favorites. "Tater Totchos" are tater tots covered with all the Nacho fixings.
There is a list of Quesadillas available. Daily specials includes half-price appetizers before 5pm on Saturdays.
Onion Rings are Big Wally's favorite and these were very good. Well-battered and crispy.
Mrs. Wally got the steak tips and loved them.
I got the Taven Mac & Cheese with Buffalo Chicken. Be warned it is a giant helping, very cheesy with a good sized helping of chicken.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Shout out to Stephanie for her great service and food...
