Chapala Mexican — Restaurant in Irmo

This place was highly recommended for a great dinner and boy was I completely disappointed. It seemed like all employees were trying to out do each other for no personality. Nobody smiled, it's like they spoke no English and we were a burden. My wife asked what a Chalupa was and she described it and my wife wanted beef on it and they said they couldn't do it but a Tostada was exactly the same thing but with meat. So she ordered that. When she got her meal it didn't have Guacamole on it. When I told the waitress she didn't get any Guacamole and the Chalupa came with it but I guess the Tostada didn't. She said she would bring her a small amount. As far as my meal, she did warn us that the plates were hot but she didn't tell us that the food couldn't even be blown on to make it cooler. It was in the microwave long enough to scorch the bottom of my Tamale. Also the white cheese that was on top of my Tamale was turned into pure white milk all over my platter.It took a long time for our food to cool off enough to eat. My food was a 4 out of 10 at best. This our family spot! We go to Chapala at least twice/week since their opening a few years ago. I love that the servers know me, husband and kids by name and always makes us feel like home. If you ever ask my 2 and 4 year old where they would like to go to eat, they will both reply without thinking: Chapala. The food is always amazing, we eat there a lot and for a very long time and we never had a bad experience with food. I think of all Mexican places around, they are definitely the best ones so far! I love how spacious the place is. I like the outdoor seating and I my kids love throwing coins at the outdoor fountain. Cheese dip is good but the fresh guacamole is to die for! I was visiting Columbia and decided to try out Chapala based on the high rating and positive reviews. However when I got there, the outside dining tables were dirty and not cleaned up from the prior patrons. The server was still great despite him being the only waiter/busser there at the time (on a Saturday). My margarita was good but the food was served very sloppy and not as stated on the menu. I ordered shredded beef and got ground beef. The plate was watery and oily in some spots. I got very sick shortly after leaving the restaurant. All of the signs were there for me to walk away and eat somewhere else but I stayed, ate, and regretting it.
