Visiting Iron Mountain for the first time, I needed a quick bite before heading out on a whitewater rafting trip on the Menominee River. Being from out East, Iâm pretty familiar with a Philadelphia-style roast pork sandwichâthinly sliced roast pork, sharp provolone, and broccoli rabe on a crusty Italian roll.
I wasnât familiar with Porketta, so I asked the woman working the deli counter what it was. She was kind enough to let me sample the meat, which I really appreciated. The Porketta reminded me a lot of the Philly roast pork sandwichâminus the broccoli rabeâand the meat was more finely chopped than sliced.
Needless to say, it was delicious. I ordered a six-inch Porketta, devoured it, and went right back to the counter to order a second. The staff were super friendly throughout. My girlfriend had a bagel, which was also surprisingly goodâespecially since weâre pretty picky when it comes to bagels and sandwiches, having lived in places like Philadelphia, New Jersey, and Queens.
Highly recommend stopping byâgreat food,...
Read moreFirst. It looks great. Definitely better than before. Sadly itâs the same ole tired bagels. I specifically asked for a slice of tomato. Asked if you had tomato. You said yes. But didnât put it on my bagel. I presume I paid for this tomato. Whatever. Couple tips. Less cream cheese. You donât need a brick of cream cheese per bagel. Iâm confused by this phenomenon. Next. Stop baking mass bagels, freezing them, and then trying to sell them to me as fresh. Itâs really annoying. And terribly obvious. Bake less bagels and run out. Itâs trendy. If you want a good bagel, get there early. Soon youâll be busy enough to bake dozens at a time because the people will be coming cuz theyâre soo good. Day old or more bagels donât eat the same. And in most places. Day old bagels are cheap. Iâm sorry. Youâre failing in this...
Read moreI always prefer to patronize local businesses over franchises and yesterday I was happy to have visited this one. My visit was also a reminder to avoid judging a book by its cover. Superior Bagel is easily driven past, like I did several times, because itâs store front isnât typical and thereâs a lack of signage. The interior is also small and thereâs only 2 tables to sit down. However, the sub sandwiches sure make up for it. Ordered a large sub. When the nice girl at the counter handed it to me, it was like being handed a brick! My huge sandwich was excellent! Good job Superior Bagel!...
