Cafe O Deli — Restaurant in Irvine

I decided to go to Cafe O' Deli for a warm bowl of chili on a rainy cold Monday. The fall in Cali is not usually cold but due to the rain, I chose something warm. They had a few different soup choices but I chose chili because it's hearty and full of protein. I ordered the half sandwich and soup combo thinking it will be enough for a light lunch. To my surprise, the bowl of chili was amazing! The owner told me that their soup is made fresh daily and not from a can. Wow I can really taste the difference. The chili was full of beans, and ground beef. It was topped with cheese, crackers, and my favorite, Tabasco sauce and boy, it was the perfect combination of tangy spicy and heartiness. I also ordered the hot pastrami sandwich on a baguette bread. Usually baguette breads are hard and too brittle but not the bread here. They did a great job in keeping the bread with perfect softness. I especially enjoyed extra pickles with the right amount of mustard.

My new job is hectic and I don't often get a chance to leave and go enjoy my lunch so when it came time to pick a place to eat one day, I was happy to discover that I could walk here and get my lunch.

This cafe is only open for breakfast and lunch. They open early and stay open until about 3:30, so there's plenty of time to get breakfast or lunch. I only go for lunch but occasionally I feel like breakfast too.

Prices are a bit steep but customer is amazing. Even with a line, they move quick. You can pay with your credit card because they a Square setup. I am rating this local deli for what it is--a nice local deli. I have purchased many items from this deli. The bread and other ingredients are always very fresh and tasty. Also, their prices are better than all of the other nearby delis. They typically have a couple of soup choices available as well as a variety of chip, drink and treat choices.
